Yeah, it seems unlikely, but there you have it.

I never thought we'd see this day. Never. But then juul came onto the scene.

Slide1-640px.jpg

This had a lot more to do with the ban, than the six deaths.

That Graphic is why I Posted this Earlier...

...

And to Counter the Mis-Leading PATH Study Figures on Teen Use that are being used as the Foundational Basis for the Current Hysteria that has been fanned by the Media.

...

Because that Graph is displaying any Teen who replied that they had taking 1 or More hits off an e-Cigarette in the Past 30.

So If you take a Hit out of Peer Pressure, or just because you are Curious, and then Never take Another Hit off an e-Cigarette, you still are Included in that Graphic.

There is Also no Follow-On Data to show whether Teens who try an e-Cigarette continue to use an e-Cigarette.

I'm the Last Person are here that is going to Defend or Condone Teen e-Cigarette use. But Naked Statistics such as a Unqualified Percentile on a Bar Graph can be Extremely Misleading.

No, I would say juul was the first mass market product to appeal to kids. And the kids preferred Mango and Mint, to tobacco. I'm not going to accuse them of deliberately marketing to kids without knowing more, but it doesn't seem unlikely.

Realistically.

If JUUL had Never Existed, would there be No Teen e-Cigarette use "Problem"?

Or would they just be Vaping on Something Else?

No doubt, but however they counted vapers, the numbers went up from 11% in 2017 to 27% in 2019. And that's all Juul.

I don't know, but just look at the numbers. Teen vaping plateaued in 2015 and then came down some in 2016 and 2017. Enter Juul, and the numbers skyrocketed.

I’m a teacher and most of our students are kids and teens. I remember once I went outside for a second and I saw two teens, around 13 or so, who were vaping out of a mod. I was shocked because I couldn’t believe my eyes. So I’ll say they’d still vape on something else if they really wanted too. Having said that, I think that the way Juul was sold it was way easier for them to get it. I’m thinking those teens got their vapes from their parents as I doubt they’d just sell something like that to a child basically.

I think to a degree, dumb kids are going to keep doing dumb things. At least vape is a lot less harmful than eating Tide pods or spoonfuls of cinnamon.

That said, as misleading as the posted statistics seem to be, an increase of teen users of vape products shouldn't be a big surprise. The first thing young, impressionable little people do is ape their seniors. Then they go on to try and outdo them.

This isn't about kids, recent illnesses, flavors, public health or anything you or they can come up with.

This is and always has been all about the money and the money only.

The multiple billions of missing MSA money.
The multiple billions of BT losses over that last several years.
The multiple billions of BP losses on nrt therapy products & prescription smoking cessation products.
The multiple millions lost in the general health care field from lack of participants in nrt & prescription smoking cessation programs.
Multiple millions of missing sales tax revenue due to online vaping purchases.
The missing millions in the insurance industry from lack of 'smokers premiums.'
The multiple millions in trade imbalance due to most vaping products originating from foreign countries.
American $ going directly to other countries.

20 or 30 million for a PR firm to raise truthful awareness, money from business in other countries? you gotz to be kidding.

About 3 years ago the Govt named their price, for the most part it fell on completely deaf ears.

If vaping is to survive as we know it now it is really quite simple.
Figure out a way for vaping to fully fund all the above missing money.
We're talking hundreds of billions to start with as a stop gap, then at least fund the MSA every year afterwards.

At this point it sure won't hurt to try anything & everything, but, there is only one sure way.
Money, lots of it.

I am Not going to Speculate on Specific Percentages. Because I Can't even say for sure if the Surveying Methods were the same to Collect/Calculate the Data in 2017 as it was in 2019.

But I will say this...

I'm Not Concerned with the Percentage of Teens who Try and e-Cigarette, or take some Hits of one out of Peer Pressure, and then Don't Continue to use an e-Cigarette. The Meaningful Percentile of Teens who use and e-Cigarette and then become Semi or Daily Users.

That is where the Problem Lies. And that Number is Vastly Lower. And more on a Par with How Many Teens are Semi or Daily Smokers.

Or Drinkers

Or Drug Users.

But Very, Very Few want to Quantify things in that Perspective.

Yeah... I Really Don't Think JUUL set out to Sell to Teens. It Just Isn't a Very Good Business Model in today's day and Age of Regulated Market.

But, Unfortunately, they made a Product that became the "Must Have" Teen Device.

Agreed. I would like to see those numbers. But it stands to reason that if the number of those vaping at least once a month almost tripled in two years, the number of "semi or daily users" went up as well. Juul is selling $2.36b a year of their mint flavor alone. That can't all be on "once a month, peer pressure users."

Agreed.

And just like You Know, and I Know, and the FDA Knows, and just about EVERY Politician Knows, there is Very Little that can be Done to Stop something like this once it has Gained Momentum.

No Matter what Anyone Says. And No Matter How Many People say that "Something has to be Done".

So Great. There will be No Flavor e-Liquids.

Guess all these Teens are going to just Chuck their e-Cigarettes in the Trash. Because there is No Way that they are going to do DIY.

Or buy DIY Carts from Friends who have.

No Argument here. The Numbers have gone Up.

And I Don't Like it.

But I also Don't like that Teens still Smoke. And there are No Flavored Cigarettes sold in the USA. And Haven't for awhile.

It is possible, BUT vaping here is not cheap at all. I have a good salary and I can barely afford it, lol. They weren’t using the cheap ones, they were like the “box”. Also juice is kind of expensive here. That’s why I’m more inclined to say they got it from their parents. Oh yeah, and here teens don’t get jobs. You must be at least 18 to work and if you do work that salary won’t get you too far. It is also possible that they saved for a long time to afford a vape. I don’t know. I’m glad kids/teens don’t vape too much here, otherwise we’d be saying goodbye to vaping too.
