Graphics are not impacted, you booted into the BIOS, graphics are required for this.

SATA is the interface in which the hard drive connects to. SSD drives do come with this interface, but also can be purchased with other interfaces – these are noticeably different so it would be difficult to purchase the wrong one. If unsure, post the drive here and others will answer.

Actually I should have asked that as well...
The spec on this Samsung says SATA 3.0 and SATA 1.5 gb/s

This is the original

Would that tell me? Or is that another internal thing

This broken one does say 6.0gb/s.
Would I be best to replace with like for like or as its ssd it can be 3.0 gb/s?

Thanks again.

That Samsung SSD will work. Samsung has a industry leading reputation of making great SSD’s

SATA 3 is the evolutionary identifier of the SATA interface. SATA is backward compatible so a SATA 3 drive will work on a SATA 1 port, and vice versa

6 Gb per second is the theoretical speed of the SATA port, not the drive. The Samsung’s SSD theoretical speed is 1.5 Gb per second. Despite the port is higher, it will operate at lower speed. Your failed Hard Drive is much, much, MUCH slower. You will notice a huge difference

Thanks ^ ordered.

I hope that it’s all back working tomorrow.
I’m looking forward to finally having ssd (bit late lol) but just a little nervous about it being fine.

I have said it before but the group of guys on this forum I find very helpful. Other forums not so much
I thought asking about hard drives and broken computers might be a bit much but here the answers and reassurance are.
Cheers ECF and you guys particularly ^^ :toast:

Your'e welcome, glad to be of at least some assistance.

SSDs are an excellent choice particularly for mobile devices, super fast access times and data rates and shock resistant. Definitely more than a HDD which is in essence a digital gramophone, and the weakest link in the chain at least physically. One good knock and they can be toast.

@Zutankhamun, I noticed that your date and time are out. Usually a button cell battery such as CR2032 is used to power the clock and keep the BIOS settings.

Also it may be wise to consider that incorrect BIOS settings can make things inaccessible, especially with Windows 10.

Thank you. I was going to explain that ha. It was correct before I got involved.

I will correct when my drive arrives. Still not here...

BIOS Time is only really needed should NTP Synchronization is not available. NTP = Network Time Protocol and will be the true time, not a prescribed time such as the BIOS, which like all clocks, can drift.

By default, Windows utilizes NTP, and the Windows service, w32tm, will sync with NTP servers once every week (unless modified by the user). If a computer is not connected to the internet for a duration longer than the sync interval, Windows will sync with the BIOS time, but will update once an internet connection is establish and the w32tm service is run.

Last thing I read about 7 was that it was being heavily attacked by malware. Maybe research that before going online.

Wish I could haha

@Punk In Drublic

A legit copy of Windows 7 doesn’t have the drivers for the internet :(

Not sure how to find out what I need as it was a 2nd hand computer with no warranty so pc specialist won’t help me.
Intel office closed.
Do you have any idea how to find out and get what I need?
My PlayStation 4 is the only other thing I can get online that accepts USB?

Thanks a lot

That is going to pose a problem for the computer needs to connect to the internet to see if Microsoft has any native drivers for the hardware in question.

Lets try …

Click Start and in the Run box, type device manager.

device Manager will display any hardware conflicts due to missing drivers. Your Network adaptor should be identified here. Open the Network Adaptor tree, take a picture and post it.

Edit...make sure the picture is clear enough for my old tired eyes ;)

Haha. Fortunately the guy who was helping gave me a usb and it had driver on!

Seemed to have worked for eithernet but not wireless but I should be able to update my issues myself. At least I will try.
Back in a minute. Thanks a lot
