Can anyone explain????

I have been on this forum since January 2009. Some of you know that I used to have another UserID - I had SJ change it for me a few weeks ago.

I have a Webcam and a Skype account that I use only for video chatting with my Grandkids in Florida. Today I was on a video call with my Daughter - she said 'BARENETTED????? - where did that come from?'

I never changed my UserID on Skype. As a matter of fact, this forum is the only place I have ever used the ID of 'BARENETTED'. WTH changed my Skype ID to 'BARENETTED'? (i never noticed it until she mentioned it).

I am not crazy nor am I dreaming. I did not change it.

If anyone has the answer - I would love to know.

Interesting. I just started using Skype after our oldest went off to college. I will have to keep an eye on things.............

This is probably gonna sound just as crazy, but recently, I asked a friend of mine to meet me on skype. When I got off line with him I realized that I had not given him my skype name.
A few days later, he and I ran into each other, and he asked of I had ever gotten my message from him. I hadn't and told him so. He then said that he knew it was sent to the right place, because it was the same name as I use here. BiteMe52.
I was blown away. That is NOT my skype name, and I have never set anything up under that name except e-cig related forums.
So I would venture a guess that NO... you are not crazy. And that somehow, we had accounts created under our names without our knowledge. In my case, I can't even get into it, as I don't know or have the password.
BTW... the account has never shown any activity.
Strange? Duh!!!

Comforting to know that I am not crazy. This is bizare! FYI - it was not an additional account that was created - my old one was renamed. The history of all my calls was still there. Now I am beginning to get worried.

Sounds like a invasion of privacy to me ... Scary I dont have a skype account but WTH is going on that usernames are being changed .... So what else is going on?

something must be shared on your system with ECF and skype. the only thing i can think of is cookies or temp files. but interesting experiences i will point this thread out to the staff.

A friend of ours wants us to set up a skype account so we can talk more since he lives about 80 miles from us. After reading this I think I'll wait to see what happens or maybe what caused it before we do it.

I have seen things like that, I don't surf on place like those indeed ECF is my first forum, but I expend more time on computers than hairs in my childhood head, the only answer is what LORDMAGE gave you (something must be shared on your system with ECF and skype. the only thing i can think of is cookies or temp files) cookies are to blame

I love Skype - it is great.. especially for the video calls. For regular audio conversations, I just use my home phone - I have VOIP so I can talk long distance till the cows come home, but it makes me so happy to see the little ones and have them see me. I would be so miserable without it.

Lisacab - I did - all of our avitars are there. However, my old avitar is showing. I do understand the workings of Google, but it still doesn't explain how my UserID on Skype was changed.

Just got to thinking about it, my daughter just moved to Florida and that would be a great way to get to see her more often. I'm going to keep watching this thread and see if your account being compromised is figured out. I really hate talking on a phone. I have a cell but I text on it way more than I talk on it,lol
