I just got my DIY kit and started messing with pineapple and Congac. After mixing each on separate bottles, each 5ml, and adding nic to them they have a funky after taste. Of my 3ml bottle of DIY piapple im down to half on just 5ml of mix I created. I started with about 8% of flavoring then went to....should be about 65 drops of flavoring, it taste like pineapple but still has that funky taste just like the Congac the same thing happend. Any reason this is happening. It should be 30 drops per ml.

I use a syringe to measure for mixing DIY less chance for error......going by drops means a lot of counting...even w no mistakes you only have an 86% chance of just getting ratios right...that's not even a guarantee of getting the measurement right...example take a mirror and drop 1 drop PG on it do the same with your VG unless the VG is pre thinned to the same viscosity of the PG the VG drop will have more...same with any other liquid...they all have different viscosities...

as to odd flavor...you may need to steep

oh jees I just realized...you need an E juice Calculator...flavorings are like 20% max(and I START at 5%) ...you have more than that in your 5 ml bottle so yea it should taste funky...

I used the E-juice Me Up Calculator but I did used ml measuring for some and drops for others. I guess I do need to use syringe if its like that. I did notice that 30 drops wasnt always 1ml. Thnx for tip I will start at 5% instead of 8% and use a syringe this time. Also do you add the Nic juice first or until you have the flavor you like?

Madman hit the nail on the head. Always use a pipette or syringe for the most consistent results. Start at 5% and work up from there... some flavors don't even need that much (coffees and tobaccos).

Everyone has their own way of mixing but here's how I do it.

I mix my base liquid with no nic. Since I like a 70/30 mix I have some of that mixed up (with zero nic) in advance just for DYI. I use that to experiment with so I'm not wasting expensive unflavored nic juice. Once I get a flavor I like I'll replace my unflavored pg with nic pg in the final mix. I end up throwing out more experiments than I keep and it's just cheaper this way. :) I haven't noticed adding nic in the final mix changing the flavor much. Maybe a bit more throat hit but that's it. One other nice thing about doing it this way... you'll know right away if it's your unflavored nic that's causing the "odd taste".

If I'm mixing more than one flavor I do it the same way but once I figure out where I like it I'll mix up some of the "flavor base" of all those flavors in the same proportions in a 10ml bottle. Then when I want to mix some up in the future I just add this to my nic base. Makes it easy. Plus I think it allows the flavors to "pre-steep" and meld together even before you add the nic base.

Keep at it, you're on the right track.
