I am just getting started with the whole mod thing. I got a 5v box mod in a trade and was woundering how easy it would be to make it adjustable. It is very well made and has a standard 5v regulator with three prongs, reds on the outside and the black grounds in the middle.

The question is......Is there a three prong adjustable regulator that I can get to replace this one? Something I can just use in the exact place this one is that I can unhook the current 5v and solder in the new(red in and out on the outside and black grounds in the middle)?

Again, I am super new to this and have very little electrical knowhow so if I just asked a really dumb question please foregive......thanks!!!

you can use a single big batt (18650, 18500...) and the TI booster with a 200K POT
with 2 resistors and a diode. thats what im working on and it'd be done by now if my soldering skills weren't so crappy.
if you add a feeding system to it you have the perfect PV

Can you give us a diagram and easy to follow (for a beginner) instructions on how to do that, misterD? The feeding part I might have figured out (I think LOL), it is the wiring for the variable speed thing that confuses me.

i wouldn't even know where to begin. i've never done a diagram before. which program do you guys use to drawn it?
the idea came from this thread that BigBlue started. towards the end of the thread WB posted a diagram that could be helpful
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/102419-adjustable-voltage-box-mod.html
Nuck uses a 100K resistor between Vout and Adj besides the diode to bring the Vout down.

I saw this diagram last night when I was reading through the threads. However, along with the diagram, I need easy to follow and understand written instructions. For example, what is that turqouise colored rectangular piece in the diagram? The green rectangular piece that says "FET?" The oval that says "10K?"

If I knew what those pieces are (as well as the other mysterious looking ones), then I could figure out what I am supposed to do with all of them. As it appears now, though, it might as well be written in Martian. LOL

I know between nada and zilch about electronics, and was hoping to find something with the details spelled out for me. Surely, there must be an easy to understand tutorial somewhere or that someone could write up for us in plain English (not just in techno language). I am sure I am not the only person who would like to see this type of guide available.

i myself dont understand this whole thing completely :p
nihil!
Fet = mosfet- you dont need one if you use a 3A rated switch
the 10K thing you refer to is a resistor that Fet needs to work (but just use a decent switch and forget the FET and "that" resistor)
since you already have been doing some reading take a look at Nucks Fistpack tutorial
https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AXdaMZo4FKMVZGhqdnE4YnNfNDNjN2Q0cHBoZg&hl=en
dont order anything yet.

Okay, so I read through Nuck's tutorial. I understand most of what he did.

There must be someone who would be willing to set up a semi-universal circuit board with all of the attributes necessary for a variable voltage mod (including lighted charge information panel), with atomizer, switch, etc. wires left disconnected, then put the circuit board into the mail so that another person (namely, me) could just drop the prepared circuit board into their own mod case, solder the appropriate connections, and then start vaping. (Whew, that was a long sentence!)

It would sure make life easier, probably safer(!), and less confusing!
