If I had to do it all over again, I would take advantage of the RTD Vapor Sale on Xtar. You will not find a better deal on them and they are superior to the Nitecore line of chargers.

When I got my Nitecore i4, I thought, sweet no spacers, no BS. That was until after two weeks, my Nitecore smelled like burning. I am currently awaiting a new one.

Sorry about your Nitecore not holding up Mike. Many of us have had great luck with the i4, Xtar does make a good charger also, and Rick that is a good deal.

Some pretty good suggestions here soba, Amazon, Ebay, RTD. I have placed two orders with Fasttech, and I was impressed, 8 days from China to me, and it is hard to beat the prices. But you can't go wrong with the others either. Whether you get the Nitecore or Xtar, I am sure you will be happy with it.

THAT I'm seeing way too many complaints about on ECF lately. Both the i4's and the i2's. I'm about to rebrand them NiteFireCore chargers.

I don't know what backing you get on these Nitecore things but I keep harping on the fact that Xtar backs their stuff with a 2 year warranty. It generally follows that if they don't think that thing is gonna last two years they don't offer a 2 year warranty on it. Even out of context of the current sale at RTD Vapor I'm of the opinion that you get your best value for performance from the Xtar stuff.

Hrmm. I've had this NC4 charger for more than three years. It's charged batteries for all manner of devices, from GPS to surveying to two-way radio to e-cig stuff. I did have a problem with an internal charger for a device a few years ago. It destroyed a $1,000 device that was thankfully under warranty.

That said, the Xtar chargers look like some fine equipment and if this NC ever goes belly up, that's a fine option for its replacement.

Maybe an order is in order for a backup to the backup? That's how I'll explain it, anyway.

I got the PILA and am thrilled.

I hate the chargers that are spring loaded. I feel like I'm moving parts aroudn to get the batts in.

Pila, just drop 'em in, charges perfectly every time. Batts never get hot, charger never gets hot, been going strong for a year now.

Yeah, cost a few extra bucks, IMHO worth it.

And yes, RTD or Super T Manufacturing for chargers

As I said in another topic, although I own the PILA, I think the WP2 II might be a nice sweet spot for many people.

It also has the USB output, so you can charge your cell phone on it. :)

I will just repeat WHY nobody should buy a cheap charger:
The other thing people don't think about is that a good charger will take care of the health and longevity of your batteries.

Heck, I only use AW batts and they are not cheap. The cheap chargers have terrible charging algorithms, and cheap chargers are often constant current, which is not good.

A good charger is also safer in that it won't overcharge your batteries (which would also decrease their lifespan.)

Cheap chargers are for back up or emergencies or if small, maybe a travel charger . I rely on my PV and without good batts and charger, you're reduciing the whole picture

I lurk on all those "flashlight" forums, and keep up with the tests the guys there do.

2-bay chargers are also probably faster and more efficient than 6 bay chargers.

Yep, another vote for RTD. I just bought a Xtar Vp1 tonight with the Xtar sale and ecf5 code, got a top of the line charger for fairly cheap.
Likewise on the VP1...took advantage of the sale at RTD....if you want XTAR, it's on 'till 8/20, get 'em while the gettin's good....

My VP1 arrived today. I needed that like a hole in the head... My Xtar WPII 2 is 18 months old now and it's given me no reason to think it's going south any time soon. For that matter, as a 2 bay charger it's kept up with my battery vaping needs just fine. My 2500 mAh 18650's come off it in about 4 hours. Don't really know - never timed it. It's certainly not such a long charge time that it's ever crossed my mind.

But ahhhh! The VP1! At 20% off I just had to get it. Yeah, I read all the technical reviews on the geeky flashlight sights and one guy in particular there really knows how to test and assess chargers. What it comes down to is the Xtar VP1 charges identically to a Pila. The CC/CV charge curves are practically identical. But now with the VP1 you also get that cool status display (I can't help staring at it), no spacers required, and the ability to charge batteries as small as 10440's. At the 20% off price? The heck with Pila. The Pila is way overpriced compared to the identical performance and added features of the VP1.

Not saying the Pila is not a good charger - it set the standard. But it's long overdue for a price drop or it's going to get run over by competition. Right now Pila and Xtar are the only two brands I can recommend.

About the 4 bay or more chargers? To date they all rely on bank switching to charge. Once you put more than two batteries in them you just end up with overall longer charge times as they rapidly cycle the charge current between batteries 1 and 3, 2 and 4 etc. For a multiple vaping family it might make sense to go there. But if you want to pull batteries off a charger quickly stick with a 2 bay charger.

Oh yes, I could not resist that display on the VP1, and the good reports about it pretty much sealed the deal for me.
I have a NiteCore I2, but I really wanted something with a readout, because I'm a little OC when it comes to batt charging and tend to hover over them while they are charging, lol
I plan on using the VP1 as my primary charger and the NiteCore as my backup.
The price for it at RTD was too good to pass up and at that price I could afford to get one of those Grey Panny 18650 2250mAh batts too.

You too! lol I got the Panny 2900 hybrid in green. I have to color accessorize my Tesla with those huge vent slots! :D

What I like about that display on the VP1 is it's actual lack of brightness. I can easily read it. But it doesn't flood a room with light when you might want to actually sleep or something. I have a Maha NiMh charger that has a display so bright it's been banished from the bedroom.

Guess I'll have to get a real charger some day. For now my 2 bay MP charger has been working great for almost a year. Charges all my 18350-18650 batteries without issue and only cost $5.50. YMMV:D

To be honest? Depending on what model that is I'd probably recommend it over a Nitecore at this point. Might not give you the best end of cycle voltages, but it won't be doing a melt down either.
