Hi and welcome. Lots of info here. I'll be the first to start nagging. LOL. Make sure you only buy high quality (samsung, sony, or LG) high drain batteries. And only use chargers that come with and are made for your device (also called PVD or Mod) or a high quality charger. Nitecore chargers are good, I use that one. Others are also good, but I can't name them, since I use Nitecore. (oddly.. nitecore charger = good, nitecore batteries = not so good)

I mention this right off, since vaping is about harm reduction. Batteries are the #1 best way to reduce risks. Every video you see about an exploded battery, was a cheap battery. God knows, I am none to gentle in my comments on those news casts either. LOL. I'm not shy about calling a spade a spade.

Ok, here it goes. I want to try to build my own coils. Is 8 wraps a good starting place?

It really depends on the wire you may want to go with. If you are using a super thick wire, 8 wraps will have a different resistance then 8 wraps of a super thin wire. I think the first thing to figure out is what wattage you might be vaping. If you think you might be vaping at 20 watts, then a 28 or 26g wire is appropriate, from there you find a resistance that accompanies or goes best with your mod and tank and from there make your wraps to get to that resistance. So before the number of wraps, it's good to know your devices and perhaps your wattage. For me I liked a particular tank and bought it, from reading and asking, I knew that tank worked best around 20 watts, so I bought 28 and 26g wires. I also found out that that particular tank worked best at an average of 1 ohm resistance. So that's what I tried first and tweaked everything from there

Great info! I'm using 26g kanthal on a kayfun v5. I'm brand new to coil building so I really appreciate the details!
