the one negative thing I thought about when i decided to quit smoking was not going out on smoke breaks during work. vaping solved that issue.
i vape in the elevator, stairwells and bathrooms when im too busy to step outside. ill take a couple pulls at my cube if no one is walking around. not sure if there is a policy at my office but i don't feel like having to argue with people at work about it.

I work in a large public school district as a technician. I wouldn't vape there even if it was acceptable. I understand it's a significantly healthier alternative, but there's something about emulating smoking with hundreds of young minds being present that doesn't sit well with me. Likewise, once my daughter is born in 8 weeks, I will (by choice) avoid vaping in her presence until she is old enough to understand the difference. I don't want any "but my daddy does it so it must be okay" types of thoughts being engraved into her until she knows that what daddy is doing is not "smoking".

Just my 2c. I'm sure others may see it differently than I. :D

Interesting thoughts.

I've read that kids with parents who smoke (analogs) are far more likely to smoke themselves as adults.

Same principle could apply to vaping, which is likely far better than analogs, but probably not better than neither.

Great thing about vaping, though, is that you can be a smoker without the pain in the ... it is to be a smoker.
Sure, there's some tinkering and prepping and maintenance, but that's fun for me. If I want a couple of puffs to take the edge off, though, I can do it quickly, in total stealth, leaving almost no lasting evidence- instead of a stinking cigarette .... to get rid of, I just drop a small electronic device in my pocket. Even better, if I want to smoke socially I can head outside and puff away with the smokers.

see this is part of the problem right here!

you can't manage vaping in the workplace and keep up with everything else you work on? you couldn't draft a quick 2 paragraph policy on vaping in the workplace? cmon now.

that just seems like a poor excuse.

Why should he? The man started a business to make money, not babysit you.

Expecting other people to accommodate your nicotine addiction is immature and selfish.

Your vaping is not his problem. Make it his problem, and he'll make it your problem.

This is as it should be. Businesses exist for one reason.

For the record, there are 20+ vapers in our office. I converted most of them. We all go outside with the few remaining smokers. We don't feel that it's appropriate to inflict our vapor on our coworkers. We wouldn't want to breath your nicotine, or your farts or perfume either. It's common courtesy. Vaping is not 100% harmless.

We also know that if it forced an HR policy, that HR policy would 99% not be in our favor.

The reason I started vaping was that my boss, who regularly smoked in the office, had a heart attack and quit smoking. Out of respect I would not smoke anywhere near him through his quitting phase. I started with "Blu" e-cigs and he didn't mind me using them in the office. Since moving up to bigger and better things, some smellier than others I only vape in the office if he's not in the building. I work alone for the most part except when he happens to be there. Our company has a no smoking policy, but not a no tobacco policy so if I have a free moment it no big deal for me to walk out of the office to vape. I think overall most of the smokers are envious that I can vape in the building and vehicles, especially when the walk in and it smell so delicious.
