Been alternating 2 cartos for the past ~1 week. Now one of the cartos requires a really hard draw to get a hit and is heating up really fast. As in, it goes from cool to lip burning in six seconds flat.

Was wondering if there is a reason for this beyond just the carto going bad. No chemical taste that I can detect, and I checked the air holes on the threaded end of my battery (Kr808D-1) and they look unobstructed.

I'm guessing it's either A) the carto just went bad, or B) maybe I burned the inner filling and it partially clogged the carto? Just wondering if this is a common issue that just happens (I obviously don't expect cartos to last forever =P), or user-error that I can correct so my cartos will last longer in the future =)

Same juice in both of them. You can see through the carto as well, so it's not blockage.

Well, I'm not an expert, but I disassembled the carto, and while the cotton material isn't burnt (a little grey in some areas, but otherwise fine), there's a burnt inner "core" piece that resembles a small (1/2 inch long) rolled up piece of paper. It's completely carbonized, just a crumbly black tube.

Guess I overheated the thing and whatever that material was insulated the coil somewhat. Would explain the overheating at least.

I usually put hot (scalding) water thru mine with a syringe to wash...done this about 5 times

I have noticed some of these do not last very long when vaping, even after the first couple of washes....maybe last 10-15 minutes or taste burn even sooner.

So....I started taryn spinning the juice out after using. If any of them had slightly less than half or 1/4 of a condom of liquid come out, I pulled the filler out and looked at it. All of these had burn holes in filler and some had burn holes on the blanket thingy under the filler.

My theory...if they don't wick properly, they are burned even though the taste is not obvious...you are just wasting liquid by washing and refilling these. Now I trash them if they have much fluid spinning out after I use them. I don't need to be vaping filler and wasting juice!!!

I posted this on another thread....I get the above on the premium cartos and I get what you described on my cool carts.....the inner core goes instead of the filler!!

There seems to be a part inside the carto that I assume is heating up and creating a hard draw if you take a small screwdriver or large safety pin and poke it up the large hole on the batt side and clear the passage way it's kind of a hard push you can widen the hole that has probably melted shut it should fix your problem at least it worked for me

Guess should be pointed out that we are all in your boat. Lot of trial and error figuring these things out only to have a new batch be totally different working flawlessly or acting up in a different way. Even with good prices, tough to justify premature autopsy sometimes and have to be careful that you dont make the problem worse like breaking the wire that was almost broken etc.

Knowledge is power and of course cartos are technically disposable so maybe we want too much for them to last 3-6months. But as you saw the autopsy probably tells all. Once they just refuse to vape properly even after cleaning time to move on. Now of course if it's truly user error and not just a quality variation then the real fun begins trying to figure out what you did that actually caused the problem. Easy in a quick kill, but long term small damage may just finally catch up with them no matter how gentle you try to be.

Now crossing fingers that I never get a lip burn, that's got to be even more unpleasant than the occasional hot glob of juice fired out of the carto cannon into the top of your mouth.

I stopped using cartos after I saw the burning after pulling one apart. Check the RoyalSmoker's E2 ceramics. They don't burn. They don't use batting. They use a silica string that's in two loops. Using my Wetbox, I just fill them and when they start to run dry, I shoot some juice to them. Best system I've found.
