I wouldn't say it's brilliant, but here's what i do. I am a flavor junkie so this is my method for a case and marking cartos. Sharpie paint pens. Comes in many colors and stays on as long as you don't wash them.

I am still looking for the perfect way to store them all. :)

I'm still looking for a good way of coding them (using sharpie on the condom), but I'm pleased with the storage I'm using. I got an old cigar box and put the tray from a box of bullets in there. If you've never seen them, this is a plastic tray with 50 holes (5x10) to hold bullets in a box. 9mm fits my cartos without the condom and larger caliber fits them with the condom. It makes it easy to organize and group. If I end up needing more than 50 I can easily add another tray to the cigar box.

If you're not a shooter, just ask around and find someone who is. They're probably throwing these trays away (I was before vaping). As for a cigar box, any cigar store will sell (or maybe give you) a nice cedar cigar box for about $2.

The box also leaves me room for juices, blanks and some misc supplies.

I was using the rubber bands but I didn't like it, so now I am using sticky labels. I use a hole puncher to punch out small holes and mark them with a number and have a card with that number stating what it is. You can also buy colored sticky spots, use it to color code or write on them. You will need to replace them after while but it works.
