Just sharing my own experience...

I had be happily using my cartotanks for several months, and watching the commentaries of RBA's from the sideline for quite a while. I was somewhat intimidated by the thought of fiddiling with one, as I like things that work correctly right out of the box. However, I finally decided to try one, an AGA T2. It is a popular and often recommended affordable Genesis-style clone.

I did my homework. I spent hours learning about wrapping wicks from stainless steel mesh and how to wrap a coil from wire. How to oxidize both and do pulse fires. Learned which batteries are recommended. Reinforced my knowledge of resistance and voltage. Learned how to use a multimeter. And I watched a ton of videos.

The video that Zen did for his Z Atty Pro for Provape is probably the one that I learned the most from. If you can find eHuman's blog it has everything you need to know about setting up an AGA.

I had very mixed results with my first couple of attempts. But after some trial and error, I got laugh-out-loud clouds of vapor and purchased a second one. It took a while to find the right flavors to put in mine, as some of my favorites did not taste their best in the AGA. I have found them to be time-consuming and a little fiddly, but when they are working on all cylinders there is nothing better and the two that I now own are used nearly 90% of the time at my house. They can and do occassionally leak if not kept upright, so they are not an ideal out-and-about delivery device. I still use my dependable and consistant cartotanks for that.

If I were you, I'd have at least a couple of dependable cartotanks on hand before diving into a rebuildable, but by all means do the research and get an affordable RBA to play with.

RBAs are diffidently worth the effort of the learning curve after you get over it you can recoil them pretty quick and the SS wick really just needs to be cleaned not remade give it a go you can get into them pretty cheap with a AGA-T or a RSST, RDAs are nice to have too they're all I use on my bottom feeders

I have yet to find a clearo, (even bottom coil clearos) that hasn't muted flavor. As soon as I was able to jump the learning curve with carto tanks, I never, ever looked back. IF I have to use a clearo, I'll use unmodified Kanger T3's, and only as a back-up.

Some can taste the polyfill, others cannot. Some can taste the wicks, others cannot. I am in the former category.

I am in the fiddling stage right now. I have an IGO-L which i can't seem to get right, keep getting the harsh metallic taste no matter how i build it. I havent touched it for awhile. I had an AGA-W that i fiddled with, cotton, silica, mesh wicks. Again couldn't make it work as it should and sold it on the classies. I have an RSST that's coming soon from a coop. I picked up some SS rope off the classes 7x19 to use when the rsst gets here. Hopefully i'll be able to get this up and going!

it is about having, and knowing how to use a RBA should the need arise in our future.

I must admit, part of my decision to finally getting my first RBA factored in the possibility of future The FDA & Deeming Regulations of E-cigarettes by the FDA and the potential of general vaping supplies possibly being banned or in extremely short supply by alarmist hoarders. The replacement supplies and tools required for upkeep of an RBA are independent of anything the FDA could prohibit and can be found nearly anywhere.

Ran through them all and currently am enjoying the carto tank the most. Is it time to take the next step to a RBA?? I am just not sure I want to do anything else that involves time. Making my own juice already consumes so much of it. hmmmm Buy a new Phiniac or jump into RBA? I just cannot decide!

I have done just the same as you (but started on clearo) I went RBA... Then back to cartotanks.
Some people just like one style better.
I will fill up a clearo, or build an RBA every once in a while. But, carto tanks are my main go to. Just enjoy them.

Thanks for all the wisdom and experiences. Grabbed a cheap RBA and while I wait the 7-10 days for it to get here from china I will be doing more research. I am pretty good with "tinkering" so I imagine it will be fun and another way to keep my mind and hands occupied. Probably pick up another nice tank as well next paycheck so I have options.

I really like my AGA-T. I'm glad I gave it a try. It is a hard hitting mod. I generally use 18mg nicotine but in the AGA-T I've dropped to 12mg. The downside for me is I'm not comfortable taking it anywhere. It stays in my hand or its sitting on my desk for fear of tipping over and leaking. Around the house I use the carto tanks or Evods. Out and about its the spinners w/ Evods. No worries about losing a tip or a tank sliding up and leaking. Errr ... I forgot the question.
