Well, CG, you wanted pics. Here's the whole happy cartomator family

I threw the older cartomator on one of my Screwdrivers just so it wouldn't be device-less. Wouldn't want it to feel left out, now would we? :p

Very nice KJ...lookin good! I am in the midst of remodeling the Vaperfexion World HQ to fit in another CNC machine and it's turned into a nightmare. So I apologize for being a little absent over the past couple days!

Ugh, remodeling . . . usually does prove to be a headache  This some new and fancy piece of equipment or just basically another of what you already have? Just curious

Kinda fancy...I guess...at least for me....it's a CNC Mini-Mill... a Sieg KX-3. I have a manual Mini-mill but this is new territory here for me. I do have a CNC lathe, which allows for anything round or concentric to be made, but this is about as good as it gets, shy of taking out a mortgage for a machine. For those that don't understand....lathes do round work, such as tube mods and Mills do Straight line or square shapes. In basic terms, a ProVari gets done on a lathe and a Darwin gets done on a mill. Although like the fluting on the ProVari tube, probably is done on a Mill also.

Cool. I have minimal experience with CNC, I know just enough to start them up for my purposes at work (I'm a vibration analyst and maintenance mechanic) and that's about it :p I've used mills and lathes, but the manual type. Ancient models at that (Bridgeports and Hardinges that are older than me, mostly)

I'm an accountant in RL, but my dad was a master machinist and I guess it just stays in your blood lol! As a teenager, I learned from him on a 1940's era Southbend. The old machines are the best. Everyone thinks that CNC doesn't require the same skillset, but in reality it's 5x as hard as manual machining. It has as much artistry as the old methods, just done in a modern way.

Guys I just got a stainless and a regular one a mini and another 5mL and noticed obviously they take different size cartomizers.

I am a novice at handiwork and I was hoping someone could help me. How many holes is optimal, where should you place them if more than one, and what size and type drill bit works best? Is a vice necessary? I have SO MANY cartos that I don't want to buy more just so they have the holes. What is the best way to fill the cartomator? My eternal gratitude to anyone who can answer these ?s for me.

So any idea on when we'll be seeing more stock on the non-SS tanks? I get that there's been a bit of a focus on the stainless recently, but for basically half the price - I'm pretty much okay with black. Yes the stainless are very pretty and maybe I'll splurge at some point - but since I just got two of the black ones (and like them quite a bit) I'd simply like to add a couple more and call it a day - I'm thinking a blue and a green (mini). Thanks

hey guys, just got my tank in today, any tutorials on how to get this thing started? i filled it up let it sit for a while and tried to vape it and it tasted burnt, so i tried injecting some liquid in the cartomizer to prime it and it kept bubbling up and burning my tongue... i tried to burn off and blow off some excess liquid, now it just tastes burnt, so... i think i screwed this carto up! just need some advice or help

When I first got mine, it was the first cartomizer I've used. I knew since it was empty that it was dry so I primed it with 3-5 drops of eliquid. I noticed that it was not soaking in right away. If it does not soak in, it is not going to wick and you're just going to be burning dry filter. So I let it sit a few more hours or overnight. I may have put a drop of more liquidy liquid in than the first flavor I tried just to get it to soak in. Once the filter inside was wet, it has worked without a problem.

If you're going to drill the hole, yes a vice or some sort of jig will be necessary. Personally, I wouldn't bother drilling since it can be difficult to drill through without catching the filler with the bit (not to mention holding the drill steady). A drill press or mill would be ideal if you are going to go this route.
I do mine simply: with a hammer and a nail ;-) One hole works just fine for me and cuse posted way back in the beginning of the thread somewhere that more than one didn't work so well on the dual coil cartos

Tried the nail it wouldn't go through just dented, I don't have a big enough or sharp enough nail evidently. The steel on cartos is thicker and tougher than I thought so I went out and got a punch with a spring, that doesn't go through but it leaves enough of a dent to start a drilling or a hole punch. The hole punch is so acutely angled so you have to be careful not to punch through the inner tube but it gets the job done. It doesn't look so pretty like the nice holes without a dent like the ones that come with the new stainless cartos...there's just a hole no dent I'm wondering how they do that. They must have a drill press with a tiny bit specially hardened and sharpened for metal. Thanks Killjoy1!

I went to Home Depot since they've driven all the mom and pop hardware stores around here out of business. Do you have o rings, I asked? No we don't have those. What??? How about hole punches? Nope, that we don't have. HUH??? How about a vice I can suction cup to a counter or table...Nope just regular vices...

So I walk out with o rings for drip tips, a hole punch, a punch for starting holes in metal, and 1/16th drill bits and something I can clamp the carto in so it doesn't move, most of this stuff they said they didn't have. 1 out of 10 Home depot non-cashier employees will actually try to help you. I miss the neighborhood hardware stores so much.

If you had to give up one, your Provari or your Darwin, which would it be? Never mind, I guess that question is inappropriate for this vendor's forum. On a related note, where are the Darwins Drew? ;)

I will venture an answer. I would give up my Vari before the Darwins. I am happy that I do not have to choose since I have posted many time that the Vari also has a place and use in my daily vaping regime.

siouxsie, you are so right about Home Depot and similar stores. Long gone are the days when all the employees were knowledgeable and helpful . . .

I had a little trouble with the nail the first time I tried, too. It helps to have a jig for holding the carto and guiding the nail so you get a good, solid hit (and a good point on the nail is helpful, too). Simplest DIY one is just take a small block of wood, drill a 3/4" hole for the carto and a smaller perpendicular hole intersecting it for the nail

I would answer your question pretty much the same as ski did, keep the Darwin, but would find it very hard to part with either one were I forced to choose ;-)

I only ask because I have a black chrome Vari and the only thing stopping my acquisition disorder from making me order a Darwin with the cool features is the out of stock status. Hopefully any kinks will have been worked out with this next batch too but we shall see. I talked to Evolv and he said he was shipping more to Nhaler last Thursday so it should be any day now.
