I have yet to use an atomizer. Mainly because most people pointed me in the direction of cartomizers. I use an EGO type battery with standard 510 cartos. Occasionally I will buy a dual coil or mega dual coil or even a tank but I still prefer the small standard 510 cartos over any of those.

A problems I have with cartomizers is that it gets clogged pretty fast. I think this is because most of the juices I smoke are very sweet and VG based. When I smoke PG juices that are light flavors like lemon, the cartos seem to last a bit longer.

The average life for my cartos are probably around 5 days before they start feeling really clogged.

I need some advice about atmomizers. How is the vapor production + throat hit compared to cartomizers? Whats the spending like compared to cartomizers? How long does an atomizer last? How many components are there in an atomizer?

Thanks in advance~

I'm using either a Boge/eGO tank atomizer and it's good as new after 6-7 weeks of use. Plenty of vapor, consistently hard (wonderful) hit, and fantastic taste. I blow out and paper towel clean my attys daily, and every two or three days after the same process I soak them overnight in 153 proof grain alcohol. My only necessary expenditures have been backup supplies as my original hardware's keeping on keeping on.

I have two different style tank atomizers....the simple eGO-T that's one piece you screw onto the battery and plug a tank into; and an eGO-C that's a 3-piece atty with replaceable atomizer head....about $5 a pop for heads vs. average $9 and up most places for the 1 piece attys.

I tried a carto for three days and pitched it in the trash....hot vape and taste sucked. I'm signaling a death knell on attys as I know there's one out there for me, and I've ordered a couple of different ones. I just love the eGO tanks and have no problems with them so far.

Oh....here's a pic of the eGO-C battery and 3-piece atomizer:

It boils down to this: Price per atty/# days usable vs. Price per carto/# days usable

Also there is a question of how much work you want to do, and what level of performance you are willing to accept.
As time progresses, the performance will slowly degrade, but if you clean your atty or carto regularly, you will get a much longer life at the expense of extra work.

Caveat: My numbers are for the 510, the eGo is different, and you may want to re-crunch the numbers yourself.
Here is my experience: (510 - figures from altsmoke)
Atty: $8.55/6 weeks = $1.425 / week
Carto: $1.75/1 week

So, theoretically, my savings is a little over 30 cents per week using attys.

However, there are other considerations (good and bad):
1. an atty going bad early (or getting a lingering taste from some skunky fluid) could set me back $8, a carto going bad $2.
2. Performance is nearly always better on an atty.
3. Attys need to be cleaned regularly - this is a cost in time (maybe not important, especially for some people who have fixed budgets and plenty of time on their hands)
4. You can drip on attys

My personal choice in this is to use cartos - they provide enough performance for me, and I like the ability to test multiple flavors, each with their own carto. Also, if one gets clogged, I'm not spending hours trying to get it working again.

Bottom line: It's a very situation-dependent choice.
If you have more time than money, attys will save you a bit if you keep them clean and take good care of them.
If propensity for damage or lack of time is a concern, the carto should be considered.

Just my 2 cents - hope it helps!

Good Luck and Happy Vaping

Hey goober (HAHA!) what cartos are you using, just generic 510s? So far I've been using Boge cartos and the vapor + TH have been nothing short of awesome.
