Riva can use either the standard resistance 3.0 or the low resistance 2.0. Low resistance uses battery charge faster and run hotter for a hotter hit. You might want to get a plastic or delrin drip tip to use as a mouthpiece in a hot carto. You may also see HV cartos and those are higher resistance than standard and meant for high voltage models.

Slim 510's can only use standard resistance (LR stuff can kill the slim batteries)

The ohm rating is the resistance. Higher ohms will give a cooler vape and lower will be a warmer vape.

I've used Boge 3.0ohm Cartos on the Riva/Ego batts and it wasn't a very good. Way to cool, almost like sucking on a dead battery. 2.0 works much better with the Riva/Ego and Boge Cartos. You need higher voltage for a good vape at 3ohms. I find the 3.0 Boge Cartos really start to shine around 4.5v and up.

The Riva puts out right at 3.5v when you calculate that with the ohms the result is watts which heats the atomizer. Once you figure the general area in the watt range you prefer it gets much easier. Most people consider around 8 watts to be the sweet spot. Me I'm a little below that.

You can play around with this calculator and it makes it easy to understand. Just enter the voltage and resistance(ohms) and it does the rest.
