CASAA CONCERT SERIES: GULF COAST

Here in the sunny south, it doesn't get very cold until January. This means Nov/Dec is very much shorts weather. My company runs several city sites in Mobile and the Dir of Parks is a good friend (and e-cig user). I approached him with an idea to have a "Concert in the Park" sponsored by CASAA to be held in Bienville Square, Downtown Mobile, Alabama.

He loved the idea! Next I approached another friend of mine about having his blues band, The Eccentrix, play. After reminding the boys in the band just how great a time they had on my balcony at Mardi Gras (extortion is such an ugly word) we got ourselves a band!

Last I spoke with WKRG (CBS Affiliate that ran our earlier pro-e-cig piece in April) and they said they'll send someone out to cover the event. If we make it big enough, all three networks will have to cover it too.

I have a second band in the works, but it looks like our first public event is well on its way! I am encouraging ANY Gulf Coast vapers to join in and contribute to the event or just show up with as many friends as you can. The date hasn't been set yet (Nov/Dec?) If you live outside the area, we'll most likely webcast in live, so stay tuned to this thread for more details or go to www.casaa.org in the next few weeks.

I will continue to try to get sponsors, local news coverage, bands and other businesses involved but the approval of the city and the locking in of The Eccentrix was a major coup for CASAA and the e-cig community as a whole.

More to follow!

I'm really liking this...

I don't have any pull with the airlines, but I'll work on HUGE discounts for hotels in the area for anyone who thinks they might be able to come down for the day long event. It's the first really major public event for the e-cig community and can be an incredible positive PR piece.

For anyone who needs an excuse to make it a family mini-vacation

  • USS Alabama and Pensacola Blue Angels Navy Air Museum
  • Tons of Civil War history and walking tours
  • Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail
  • 20 minutes from the casinos (Hard Rock, Beau Rivage, Wind Creeketc.)
  • 2 hrs from New Orleans
  • 30 minutes from the beaches (yes, it's still 80 degrees here until January)
  • CASAA HQ (at least temporarily) is located right across from the square
  • Dozens of downtown restaurants and bars - Mobile is a VERY pro-ecig community

Hmmm... perhaps I can take my girlfriend down and use it to cover that trip (to where and when she never specified, just that we need to go on a trip)... haha. Ill keep an eye on this.
Wagner

:) I need to get some swag and perks from the Downtown Alliance to pass out to ECF members for the concert! Mobile has a lot to offer and the close proximity to other cities makes it a KILLER central Gulf Coast venue to establish a positive face for the e-cig community.

Other than cheap air fare and hotels - what would it take to get YOU to come here to support the first REAL public foothold for the e-cig community?

Of course we would have to find someone that would good PR and willing to accept a donation from CASAA.

Children's Cancer Research Fund?

I was thinking a little cynical and thought some about kids. Cynical because we'd be doing what the antis are doing and using kids.

Still, I love helping kids. The place or organization would have to be checked out first though---wouldn't want them taking the donation and then stabbing us in the back.

How about Make A Wish or one like that.
It will make it harder, but I wouldn't choose any that accepts money from ASH or the ACS since they have been so vocal about wanting to ban our PVs.
