Just a note here Rick, Rob mentioned a short while back that some of the newer grands had kinda shoddy 510's in them. I had the same problem putting a CH Odin on one of my grands not threading down flush and not firing. I very carefully re-tapped the 510 in it and the atty them screwed all the way down and fired finally. I would suggest sending it in to Rob or Tom to have it done, because it is very easy to crush the wafer thin washer in the 510...

How did you re tap it? What size tap did you use if you don't mind me asking? I had both of my Odins working on my Reo before I sent one to rudedog. I bought a SS one back in October and then a black one last month. I really want to understand what the difference is between these two Odins; one screws on a little more snuggly than the other, on my Reo, but it will not work at all on rudedogs Reo. I'll have to send RD some consulation prizes for all the hassle. He;s sending it back to me, so I can figure it out. So sorry rudedog, I'll make it good, and then some.

The problem was with my newer grand and not with the atty's I was putting on it. As mentioned some of Robs grands for a short period had some funky 510 connectors in them and the threading wasn't as good as previous batches, so all atty's would screw down and work on my older grand, (Feb 2014), but not the newer one, (Aug 2014). There was a thread or two about various RM2's, Cyclones, and other atty's that wouldn't sit flush on some grands.

I purchased a bottom tap and a re-threading die to check both, the Odin and the grand. The size was 7mm x .5mm, and as I told Rick, you have to be very careful as not to crush the gasket in the grand. There was nothing wrong with the threads on the atomizer, it was the threads on the grand. I have 30+ yrs in industrial tooling and machinery and was the only reason I did it myself. I did have an extra rebuild kit on hand prior to doing this also in case I sank the tap too deep and crushed the gasket. This is why I suggested sending the grand and atty to either Rob or Tom to be worked out. They have the knowledge in which to do the job without crushing the gasket. It won't matter that he is sending the atty back to you, the problem lies within his grand...

OK. I bought my grand lp in either sept or oct of this year. As I said, I was able to get the Odin in question to work on mine; maybe I have the newer 510. Interesting how the issue did not arise until the Odin. Thanks for explaining muzichead. I wonder what the cost is for Rob to replace the 510? anyone know? Thanks again for all the help!

Guaranteed, you don't have the newer 510. They aren't in circulation as yet. Probably looking at another month or so. Rob still doesn't have all the parts yet. As to the 510's currently being used, I think it was just a bad batch he received from his vendor that made it into circulation. Be prepared for when the new 510 does hit, as it will be a lengthy wait for sure. He has to convert all his current stock first and then it will be 1st come 1st served, and I'm thinking that list will be quite long. I am sure it will be after the woodvil run is done though...

It's also the case that a few of us are waiting for the new 510 and will then get a whole raft of updates done at once. I have a Grand here, that i still use and when the new gear is ready it'll get sent in one time - new contacts, haircut, new 510.

This is especially true for international customers like Aal, where the postage is expensive and the delay in receiving it back considerable.

Yep I still refuse to buy a new Reo before the new 510s. I've been saying that since summer and it is getting frustrating because I know as soon as I pick up one the next day he will put the new 510s. I don't care for adjustability but I like a 510 that can keep up with the roughing.

That was the only one I had a problem with. Authentic and clone alike. I have heard of some people having problems with Mephisto's, but that one has a pin that can be adjusted. I have to adjust mine on occasion.
I never had problems with my auth. Odins.. they work on every Reo luckily. But the Mephisto, people say it doesn't work, they mean the 510 threads are too big, they dont thread down on most Reos (well depending on brand of Mephisto) the Mephisto i got and drilled to b/f was done before my first Reo arrived. And turns out it didnt thread on, at all. So that atty is laying around not being used.. i know i could re-tap my 510 i just dont want too. Honestly im hoping this new SS 510 will help!! I would like to enjoy my Bf Mephisto with gaping post holes!

The only problem I have heard of with the Mephisto was the 510 center pin needs to be adjusted to make a connection. Haven't heard anything about any not threading on at all. First I've heard of that.

I was also able to get both of mine to work. Just some minor pin adjustments on the atty with a small flathead.

how are the threads holding up with the device you've got in this photo?i was looking at them and didn't know if their was inserts to keep from wearing out the tapped screw holes.

Just dropped my mod, bent my copper hat .. I have been fighting to figure out where I like the af on this rogue, and once I hot a dent I could tell where my afc was at and I'm getting really good flavor with a dual 24ga 0.4ohm build w rayon.

There fine, I was worried about that at first too, used to use a stainless steel 510 insert but there's no reason for it except making the threads stronger and it's one less connection without it. I'm rough on my stuff andnever had any problems. they make then with ss inserts too.

(some have inserts)

Well I'll be expecting a long wait, but I've been extra careful with my Reo because it's still basically new. Rudedog sent me back the Odin that's causing problems, and I have another Odin here that threads on buttery smooth, so when I get the other one back I'll bust out the caliper and see what's what.

oh is this the cat I was speaking to a few weeks ago about the device in the photo?when I was lookin at the photos it made me think about possible probs with all the thread on & thread offs that will happen over time with it.you know how some ppl really crank down on screws even though its not the real wheel on a bagger thier tightening.

I'm rough on my stuff and for testing purposes, no problems. If there were I could always put the ss insert in, if anyone preferred it like that.
