Dorris: I have bad news... The problem isn't the o-rings... The problem is the top caps. I have 1 of the first 5 that I bought from you which are perfect. I have 2 of the second batch of 20 that are paid for but waiting to ship for various reasons. I took my 1st run vertex apart and took a series of measurements next I did the same with the second run.
Results

Deck outer diameter
18.06mm/18.06mm (good)
Deck inner diameter (inside where the 0-ring seats)
15.27mm 15.31mm (very close)
Top cap inner diameter
18.25mm/18.46mm (fail)
.21mm difference is huge for a friction fit.
There is no o-ring that will fix this, the gap is too big. If the oring was bigger, like the red o ring that was installed as a factory fix for a screw up that they knew about will cause more problems than it will fix. The bigger o ring will pinch and become very sloppy as it is currently. I need replacement top caps, the afc rings should be fine. I have 18 aggravated customers soon to be 20 when I ship the last 2. After the issue with the Marquis (from another Chinese clone vendor, the MutationX2 from a few months ago, and now this has me re-thinking whether or not I should continue working with clones at all. This is the third black eye my company has taken in the last 4 months due to sub-standard clones.

My vertex (stupid po hasn't delivered it yet) is the first clone I've bought in a year. I had told myself a long time ago that when we buy authentic we support innovation and creativity. I've been really looking forward to this vertex though as it's got so much hype to follow it. It would be an absolute shame if I can't use it
So if they make the correction and send the top caps were all sitting pretty but what are the odds of that happening? And if they don't what can be done then?

This is a classic damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario.
One side of me wants to tell you that if you wanted near perfect you should have bought an authentic. But I realise that; while the truth would be a most un-popular stance to take. I have tried to make chicken soup with chicken Shiite for far to long. My work has improved greatly but my raw materials have remained, um.... Clones.. Made by people that couldn't tell a wick from a coil for next to no money all so we can have it our way: fast and cheap. I realize I share a certain culpability in this clone addiction. It's time to make the hard choices: those choices being put out for the real thing or live with the discrepancies created by paying less than half price for a copy. I buy 80% of my clones from "Doris" (I know it's usually spelled with 2 "R"s but that's how she spells it). Whom has been great to me/us in providing some of the best clones available. I have also dealt with Ehpro, Infinite, and Shenzen United (never again) and all of them (other than United) have their good clones and their bad clones but at the end of it all they are still Clones made by people that care just enough to keep a job. Most authentics are made by people with a love for Vaping and want to see it grow. Just because I share that spirit and have worked on your clone doesn't make it not a clone.
We will see how Doris handles this but I'm not very optomistic.
That said the next and possibly last run of clones will be a deciding factor. The Lancia authentic retails for $155, the Marquis retails for $145 add $30 or $25 to be bottom fed and you guys are getting a deal @$50 and $45
Let me step down from my soap box a minute and address that.
After taking all of the measurements I looked for an interim solution. The dental floss concept was bandied about last night so I figured I would start there. What I have come up,as a temporary fix is three wraps of waxed dental floss around the deck inside the oring area. 2 was good but three was better 4 seemed to be to much. Let's go with three wraps of waxed for the temporary win. Waxed floss makes it a lot easier to keep it in place, the I waxed type needs to be knotted and will leave a lump in the oring that will get pinched and cut the ring.
Let me look up the tracking info Cob... Brb, I will pm my findings.
Tom, while I agree on you feeling culpable for what has happened here, lets face it....it's a clone and you shouldn't have to be held 100% accountable. We take chances with clones all the time and live and learn, (so to say). While I hope for everyones sake, China does something about this for you, the chances are slim at best. Especially with making all new top caps for them!! I am sure if one digs hard enough, there is an o-ring out there that will probably work for these. I do hope you are able to find a satisfactory work around for this...
From whats happening and the possibility that clones are not something you can do anymore then it makes sense for it to end. I wonder should it come down to that and you no longer would be buying lots for runs....would you still do your magic on clones purchased and sent to you by individuals?
The send in aspect is actually worse... You spend $6 to send it to me and once it's here I tell you I'm not touching it for one reason or another, now you have to pay another $6 to get it back... I would be irritated. Maybe I should just do it like Rob; buy a thousand of one model and sell them until they run out. We will see what happens with the Vertex but I'm actually building hope, I just bought $700 in clones from Doris last night and paid the shipping, I wouldn't be completely surprised if she just sent me 20 new Vertexs. I say it's about 50/50.
