I know nicotine is poison to people and animals.

I was wondering if there would be enough transfer of the juice (and nicotine) if one of my fuzzies got the idea to bat around a carto off my desk and then licked his/her paws. My male cat likes to lick fingers. I at least rinse my hands off under water (if not wash with soap) after refilling a carto. So far he hasn't spazzed out (as nicotine is a stimulant) after licking my hands.

So I was wondering if anyone out there knew more than I do (just observation) about cross contamination with pets. I make sure my bottles are all sealed so there is no direct contact.

Thanks.

I run a branch of Cats Protection ( national UK cat welfare charity) here in Northern England, and as a result have a fair few cats here in my home, well 10 to be exact, which is fairly low number for me.

All have been exposed to vapour, which includes PG which is reportedly harmful to cats.

One of my cats has Asthma, which was a pre existing condition prior to switching to ecigs almost 3 years ago.

All have wandered through the odd drop of juice, some have actually participated in trying to open juice bottles, stealing and playing with carto's, and certainly most will have licked my hands whilst I have been vaping.

Of course with animals in the house, you have to be aware of potential problems, and keep juice out of harms way, but we have to be realistic and acknowledge they are surely going to come into contact with some Nicotine and PG.

None of mine have come to any harm, and as tinybells above has stated, playing it safe is the best policy.

The Asthma cats health has actually improved since I switched, so the lack of tobacco smoke has to be a plus.

So play safe... and enjoy your ecigs and cats...

I do try to play it safe. MY Tom will hop up in my lap while I am on the computer & vaping (used to do it when I had a lit cigarette too). Safer than the chance of being burnt.

I use the condoms on the cartos I am not using, less chance of them leaking if they are overfilled and less likely to dry out just from sitting around. Also was figuring that it would be harder for the furries to get to the juice if one of them bats a carto to the floor and starts playing with it.

Always pays to be play with safety. All it takes is one time to screw something up :(.

For the most part (short of licking the juice from the bottle or playing (clawing/biting) with the filler material) it's generally safe to be around critters.

Wow-I had no idea PG was harmful to cats! Needless to say, I have to keep everything in drawers because I have 3 little devils running around. I always thought the nic was my only concern. One of mine has an affinity for eliquid. When I am mixing she will come up and try to lick the paper towels I used to wipe up my spills. I never was too concerned about that when I was just flavor testing w/ no nic content. Now that I think about it- about 2 weeks ago I noticed something funky going on with her bottom lip, swollen and pink. Luckily it resolved itself and is back to normal. I was stymied about it since they're inside cats and she couldn't have come into contact with anything "out of the ordinary"! Egads-now I'm wondering if it was letting the spoiled little twit get a few licks in....:facepalm:GUILT!!!

Of course I waltzed into this forum today looking for info on my own mouth sores, as I've started developing them on my upper and lower lip right where my drip tip rests....
