Well folks.... add me to that list too!!

In 15 years of online banking this has NEVER happened to me. Someone snatched my number and tried to charge over $200 worth of goods last night. Luckily my bank fraud center caught it and called me this morning!

Sorry to say this, but with those odds, and the number of these posts I've seen around the forums this summer, I have to think it's related to our buying through one of the vendors.

Watch your purchases closely!! My bank is on the ball, but some people aren't so lucky, and you may have a hassle trying to get it straightened out.
:p
Just a heads up! Stay safe!!

Ugh, sorry to hear that, Leanne. I was watching something recently that said credit card fraud had gone from $5 million in 1990 to over $50 billion today. It's just getting out of hand. There's going to have to be a big government crackdown on this one, I think, to get it stopped. Credit card companies and banks just tend to refund the money and not actually go after the perpetrators. Maybe if they put a bit more effort into stopping it, it wouldn't be so pervasive.

I'm just thrilled they caught it! Not sure what triggered the flag, I've made more purchases than that before, but something alerted them. They emailed, put a hold on my account, AND called! Great great business. I'll never bank elsewhere :) They just earned a customer for life! lol I've heard some people aren't so lucky, and I know it can be a big mess to fix.

Kind of scary with the number of posts this summer about it :p

I've had my card taken twice, and my SO had his taken 4 times. Satharra is right, the banks don't enforce anything to stop it..... I hope yours blocks the charges and you get a new card soon. Maybe you could post where you've purchased things recently, and we can compare it to someone else? maybe the comparrison will lead to knowing where the card numbers are being stolen from....

or just boycott anything that doesn't take paypal....

I really want to know what vendor.. I have looked and no one has said it and I'd like to avoid any hassle cause my bank is one of the stupid ones and would just let it all run through and I'd be Fed so to speak.. and I just went through the whole ITUNES fraud crap that took me almost 2 weeks to sort out.. if anyone can PM me the vendor name It be much appreciated!

I think I only purchased from one place this month.. but I purchased from quite a few last month.. so it's hard to say who/where. That's the problem Cyia.. no one knows for sure... plus I've heard it can be from the actual company that does the CC slips and not the vendor (they use the same companies)

It's just distressing that it has suddenly happened when I've gone years with no problems. :p

EDIT: scratch that! I thought of one other place I purchased from.. so it was 2 this month.

I hear ya there. I've only been doing online purchases really since 2006 and I've only come across 4 problems with cc fraud.. 4 seems minimal these days it seems >_< It's a true nightmare. And really all it takes is one person with the number to go haywire. Had ATT do it to me.. charged me 400 something once because someone messed up and mixed my account into and card with someone elses.. that was a week long nightmare.. and then I had the whole Itunes fraud thing recently.. I'm so glad though your bank got it in time. I don't get a notice till it's over 400 or I just happen to see it my self.. Pretty sad I'm on my 3rd debit bank card and now will be on my second paypal debit card here shortly.. -sighs- When are they going to make a slot for cash to just slip into your computer and it magically go to them instead? Boy that would be easier lawl

lol Cyia.. that's funny :)

I was just chatting with someone via PM, that had it happen to them twice recently. I never shopped at the place they were concerned with. In fact, they did say they have chatted with several others here, and they've all shopped at different places.. so chances are that it is not coming from the actual vendors.

Don't assume it was one of your online orders. This CC fraud is big business. The big guys reside outside the US. Nice thing is that no matter if the bank catches it or not you are not liable if you can prove you did not make the charges. This has happened to me 5 times so I know! Also, remember the bank is not looking out for you they are limiting their losses since they eat the charges. It is in their best interest to stop the charges. Most banks use software to watch for purcahsing trends to catch these scumbags. Most will start with a small ($20-50) purchase to test if the stolen number is good. Once they get one through the transactions start to snowball and they try to buy larger ticket items. At that time hold is put on the card and most times a bank will call you.

Try this - order from 2 - 3 online vendors in different parts of the country then charge something at your local gas sation within 5 minutes of those transactions. Most likely card will be rejected.

Hope this helps and keep charging with the good e-cig/juice suppliers so we always have a good supply and healthy vendor base

I still beleive the problem is coming from whoever processes the CC payments not the vendors. But, having said that, I think it is the vendors responsibilty to make sure our info is safe when we purchase from them. They should be questioning thier processing companies to make sure they are safeguarding customers!

I have to agree with Lulu-I had a card compromised this past week, all it has ever been used for is automatic utility payments. It was caught due to being a transaction from the UK. It was a $49.81 charge and my CC Company called me. Closed the card, they sent the Fraud Affidavit by e-mail, I electronically signed it and done. CC fraud is at an all time high and all we can do is keep a close eye on our card accounts.

I have NEVER used my bank debit card for an online purchase. But last Friday, I was hit for over $300 of fraudulent charges. I had deposited that money to pay bills with. It has sure put me in a bind since the bank has not refunded the money yet. So if I owe you a PIF pkg, it will go out within a day or two.

That's terrible and I'm so sorry for you. I thought all banks covered it. Try getting ahold of the CC company's fraud dept. that issued the bank card.
