You don't need to do any such thing.
I feel much better just seeing fresh blood getting into the fight. That is all I need.

Back to OP.

I got a long and winded message from the CDC--too long and convoluted to post here, but they did respond and they actually read what I wrote, because they quoted my statement, so that is very good news.

The gist of the email:

"The main message of the ad would be that the best way to protect your health is to quit smoking cigarettes and other burned tobacco products completely. We’re delighted you’ve become a successful ex-smoker! While you used an e-cigarette in order to quit, scientific surveys indicate most smokers are using e-cigarettes and other electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) along with cigarettes, rather than completely switching away from cigarettes to ENDS.

There are proven ways to help smokers quit and prevent non-smokers from starting, including seven smoking-cessation aids approved by the FDA. Additionally, anyone who wants help quitting can call 1-800-QUIT-NOW."

So folks, keep writing! Somebody will read it and have to respond. Eventually!

Let's inundate them With evidence and Testimonials that e-cigs can Be successfully used to Quit smoking.

This is kinda the Approach that I Fear the CDC is going to take. That Most of Use are "Dual Users".

Now. More than Ever it is Important to Contact the CDC and the FDA and let them know that you have QUIT Smoking.

BTW - Here is something I wrote in an OUTSIDE Thread.

I'm not Mad at You. Or even really any Individual in Particular.

I'm just Disgusted that here we All Are, In One Place, and if Somehow people could get Turned On to Speaking Out - Outside the ECF, that we have they Type of Numbers that would be Hard to Ignore.

If Every Active Member on the ECF sent the FDA and their State and Federal Rep an e-Mail on the SAME Day, CNN would Run a Story About it.

We Have the Numbers. We just don't have Enough People to (as Wac put it) Put their Pants on and Do Something.

The Whole thing is Depressing. Maybe I've been Listening to too many Songs like this lately or something.

    Send them this from Britain.

It has been suggested that there is a risk of sustained dual use among smokers who might otherwise have quit smoking completely, representing missed opportunities to achieve complete cessation. This concern clearly applies equally to NRT, which is licensed for what is in effect dual use and recommended on the grounds that dual use is likely to increase quit attempts. The concern is therefore inconsistent; if dual use is good as a pathway to quitting, that surely applies to dual use involving either NRT or electronic cigarettes.

    That you Bobbilly.

It is a Lengthy Report. So I will Post the Conclusion here for those who like to read that postion first.

    9. Summary and conclusions

Smoking kills, and millions of smokers alive today will die prematurely from their
smoking unless they quit. This burden falls predominantly on the most disadvantaged
in society. Preventing this death and disability requires measures that help as many of
today’s smokers to quit as possible. The option of switching to electronic cigarettes as
an alternative and much safer source of nicotine, as a personal lifestyle choice rather
than medical service, has enormous potential to reach smokers currently refractory to
existing approaches. The emergence of electronic cigarettes and the likely arrival of
more effective nicotine-containing devices currently in development provides a radical
alternative to tobacco, and evidence to date suggests that smokers are willing to use
these products in substantial numbers. Electronic cigarettes, and other nicotine
devices, therefore offer vast potential health benefits, but maximising those benefits
while minimising harms and risks to society requires appropriate regulation, careful
monitoring, and risk management. However the opportunity to harness this potential
into public health policy, complementing existing comprehensive tobacco control
    policies, should not be missed.

"Or this from the nicoderm site.
Can I smoke while wearing the NicoDerm CQ patch?
For some people, making the switch from cigarettes to NicoDerm CQ happens all at once. For others, it may take a little time before they're ready to completely stop smoking. The important thing is your commitment to quit. The FDA has announced that there are no significant safety concerns associated with using NRT products like NicoDerm CQ at the same time as another nicotine-containing product, like a cigarette. If you slip up and have a cigarette while trying to quit, forgive yourself, throw you're your cigarettes and continue using NicoDerm CQ and keep trying to quit."

    Thanks ZoiDman.

BTW, anybody can fax or call the committee members and urge them to oppose the bill--not only Californians!

Please tell them that you won't be doing business with CA anymore if this bill passes!

No way that we can let this slide...thanks for the heads up!

Today I received a reply from the CDC. Same response they sent to Katya! They are Looking for dual-users because "scientific surveys" indicate that dual users don't quit smoking and want people to use FDA approved methods to quit smoking yadda yadda.

They should have given me Links to their Scientific Surveys! Instead I got Just their 1-800 # to quit now etc.

What I like during the CSPAN Broadcast was when Sen. Burr asked Dr. McAfee of the CDC about "Dual Users".

Roughly Sen. Burr asked... "Is Using an e-Cigarette while Still Smoking really all that bad? I'm mean, Isn't some Harm Reduction Better than No Harm Reduction? And Isn't smoking Less a Good Thing?"

And then Dr. McAfee kinda did that Eye Twitch look knowing he was painted into a Corner and fell back into that CDC speak like what you saw in the CDC Replies you received.

    ---

Don't feel Disappointed that you Didn't receive a more Relevant Reply. I never Expected you would. But what some People do Not Know is when ever you Contact someone like the CDC that they Log and Categorize the e-mail.

So when you made you contact, someone keyed a Button to send you Canned Reply Number 67. But the Also Checked a Box for "Pro e-Cigarette Use". And that is the Goal.
