Hey guys. I'm new to vaping so I really don't know much about what I'm doing wrong. Last night I decided to change the coil and when I went to take a hit the smoke tasted really burnt and unpleasant. I tried googling things and everything said to prime the coil so I did and I let it sit overnight. I tried again this morning but I'm still getting the burnt taste. I'm using a smok priv v8 with juishy e-juice in the flavor cotton candy clouds.

Hi and welcome.

Once the wicking is burnt, a coil will likely taste burnt even after wicking juice. So the coil may be shot at this point.

Was the coil you put in the same ohm as the coil you replaced?

Best to always put a couple drops of juice directly in the coil when installing a new one. Then start at the low end of the wattage range for the coil and gradually increase the wattage until it seems right.

OKC, OK
I'm guessing you have no way to check the resistance of the installed coil, about all you can do is check to make sure it is installed correctly and nothing is visibly wrong with it, and ensure your battery is fully charged and contacts are clean. I don't think there is any chance of salvaging the flavor of the other coil. It might work, but the wick is almost certainly burned, so flavor will not improve, and it may leak.

Should only blink three times when first turned on, I think.. I don't actually own one so not sure, but I think once on it should have a steady light when pressing the fire button. Do you know what it did before you changed the coil the first time?
When you first turn it on it blinks three times, but when I hold down the fire button the LED light is supposed to stay on for the duration of holding it down. For some reason when I hold the fire button down, it just blinks 3 times

Is it charged? Turn the mod off and place on the charger. See if it starts to charge. If so that may be the reason for the blinking light. If not, contact the vendor/shop you purchased from and tell them your mod is defective and would like a refund/replacement.

Let us know.

Was it fully charged? What is the resistance of the old coil, it should be printed in tiny letters on the coil. If the resistance has changed, it's possible that the battery which was firing the other coil (and it may have been a HIGHER resistance coil) stopped firing the lower resistance coil (although that kind of makes not so much sense to me-- it's a fixed wattage setup that should deliver the same amount of "wattage" per charge... IDK, I'd try charging the battery to full again.

I'd also say it's possible that you've got an electrical fault, so until it starts behaving normally again (if you can get it to, at all) I wouldn't try firing it or anything else. I would stay close by (but not TOO close either) so you can monitor it as it charges, if you even want to try that.

I might take the whole thing in to a vape shop (if you have a good one near you) and see if they can help and/or watch some video reviews of the device (more for how to operate it than necessarily the reviewer's "opinion") and if all else fails, consider warrantying it.

Perhaps someone will be along with the magic solution, but possibly your other coil "burned" not because you didn't prime it, but possibly because an electrical fault was starting, leading your mod to fire erratically. Etc.

Best of luck and welcome

Thank you for the advice! I'm most likely going to be taking it to a vape shop to get it fixed.

I left it to charge overnight so it's pretty strange that it's blinking. I'm probably going to take it to a vape shop to see what's going on, thank you!
