It would have been helpful to know what device you're putting these coils in.

In a clearomizer, I change coils when I can't dry burn them and get a good vape anymore. They sometimes last for a couple of months, sometimes a couple of weeks. I know I want to dry burn one when the vape performance has reduced enough to get me to do it.

In a rebuildable, I change the coil when it breaks or I want to change something about the coil.

Hope that helps a bit.

When the vape goes south. When, on a VV or VW device you find yourself cranking up the power to get a good pull.

Since you mention "5 packs" of heads, I'm guessing you're using some sort of clearo. Most of them can be cleaned and dry burned to restore them to nearly new performance, but good to have lots of spares anyway. For when it's gunked and you don't want to take the time to clean, for fumble fingers losing small parts down the drain... :)

Some flavors, as mentioned, will gunk a coil quickly, some not much at all. No good "average" can be given. Too many variables.

That is, of course, your choice.

I have many Kanger and similar coils that have been in use for months. A good clean and dry burn, replacing the flavor wicks with cotton, and they vape good as new. When the resistance finally starts to go up, I'll set them aside for recoiling when I have enough to make it worthwhile. (I like to recoil on silica so I can continue to dry burn.)
