Yep, varenicline can be dangerous for some. On the other hand, Chantix has helped some completely quit smoking as well. While I'd NEVER use Chantix, because of my own personal preference, I won't dismiss the possible positives that Chantix can bring.

I'd never recommend it to anyone, and at the very least, if someone I knew wished to take or has been taking it, I'd just try and make sure that they were aware of all possible positive and negative repercussions of taking such a controversial medication.

Edit: While I say I'd never take Chantix, I should re-phrase, if my only two choices were either smoking or taking Chantix, I'd take Chantix, no doubt about it. Fortunately, those aren't my only choices...

Very , very scary.

“It causes loss of consciousness, visual disturbances, suicides, violence, depression and worsening of diabetes. To this list we now can add serious cardiovascular events.”

One of my customers saw my box mod and ask about it,as she was lighting up a smoke. I explained it and told her I had smoked 45 years and quit when I tried it almost 2 years ago. She showed me her wrists and said that way was how chantix almost made her quit for good. If someone hadn't found her she would have bled to death.

"One bad habit for another" people don't get it.. If they will even admit to being addicts, ask them, why not trade a dirty needle for a clean one? That's exactly the difference. Safe delivery.

Chantix is wicked scary ....!! I took it for a couple of weeks one time. I dream 1-2 times per year AT MOST. It gave me vivid horrifying dreams every night.

It's true though, it does something to block nicotine receptors. When you're on that stuff, I'll never forget how this one lady put it, smoking a cigarette is like smoking a carrot. It doesn't do anything. It's just like you're not doing it. And you don't crave it.

WhyQuit - the Internet's leading cold turkey quit smoking resource There is a lot of research done about varenicline on this website... I don't have time to find it right now, but it's there along with a huge wealth of information. Anyone with the guts to really understand what keeps them smoking should go there and spend a few hours. You will have many "oh so that's why.... this or that has happened.. all of my life" moments.

My wife works at a hospital and they provided Chantix free as part of their wellness plan. I was having weird thoughts and dreams within a couple days and had to stop.

The one that did work for me was Zyban, which is also known as Wellbutrin, an antidepressant. I completely forgot about cigarettes and of course felt more positive too. Unfortunately, I developed skin problems within a week, one of the common side effects. I ended up taking a course of steroids to stop being covered in quarter-sized welts.

Shifting from smoking to vaping has been pretty easy and downright fun, what with the technology, flavors and ECF fellowship. The biggest side effects have been being dried out a little and the occasional throat and tongue irritation from too heavy a throat hit. I am thankful.

I tried Chantix, when I had to have surgery a few years ago. I had the most AWESOME dreams, but all it did was make me nauseous when I smoked (yep, continued to smoke, just not as much). It did not take the urge to smoke away, at all!

Vaping for me is the only way to go. It gives me that hand to mouth action, I love blowing plumes of vapor, I'm in love with the flavors, it doesn't stink, and I don't have to feel guilty about doing something I enjoy!

ALL I can say is, I did try "Chantix" . . . Although it was "Free" - it cost me dearly . . . Talk about an absolutely HORRIBLE experience for me . . . It not only caused me to have blurry vision (at times), "fitful" & uneasy nights trying to sleep every night, and it did worsen and raise my Diabetic A1C numbers. To compound the situation, one of the worse effect of taking the "Chantix" for me, I was one of the most difficult people you could have been around (not that I'm not already - it was worse). And although, these symptoms may happen anyway when anyone tries to stop smoking cigarettes, all these symptons and effects of using this "Drug" stop when I stopped using "Chantix." That was my experience . . . That's all . . .

I'm taking chantix and am having great results along with the vaping 0nic. Really helps with my cravings and been taking for about 2 months but am slowly weining off it now. I just cant see how any medicine or drug can make a person lose complete control to the point they want to hurt themself. There has to be more to it like RL problems and severe depression than a pill alone. I myself suffer from depression but then again chantix is an anti depressant also similar to welbutrin but we'll see since I think I'm ready to get off it.

I heard about chatix from a friend and I asked him if it worked and he said "yep, helped me quit seven times"

I've never tried it but I had a co-worker once use chantix to try and quit smoking

She was violently ill for 2 weeks, then a crazy insane woman for another two weeks, then super..... for another week... granted she was smoke free, but when she could no longer handle the side-effects and stopped taking it, she started smoking again.

I would say to people don't take the chance with Chantix, it's not worth it. You just never know if your going to be one of those people it effects adversely.

Any other product on the market with these kind of health risks, deaths and suicides associated with it, the FDA would have pulled years ago.. not Chantix, that's proof that the FDA is evil and corrupt and should be exterminated as well as the makers of the drug. They are playing with peoples lives and they don't care as long as they make a profit.

If Chantix was my only choice I would not take it but keep smoking. I know the risks with smoking and have accepted them already for years, Chantix is a different story, it may cause me to kill myself in a months time. I'd tell everyone to stay away from this killer.

My husband and I both started taking chantix.. . a few years ago. He took it for a couple of weeks and started having strange dreams. He said he wasnt suicidal or anything but very strange and he stopped taking them.
I took chantix for close to a month I never did refil or get the second months pills. I used the chantix and fake cigs. I dont know where I got them but I bought two packs of no smoke cigs. They looked like reg cigs and gave me something to hold in my hand and faux smoke lol Anyway after the 3 weeks without analog I decided to try it on my own since the hard part was over NOT. But I did manage to stay off the analog and while I didnt notice any reaction to chantix I think I just started hearing too many horror stories and felt it would be better to stop taking it.
I had a son in law that started taking chantix at the same time that hubby and I did.. He did well and stopped smoking for about three weeks and then used a fight with my daughter to start smoking again. lol
So one out of three of us quit..

I took chantix when I quit smoking the first time, about 3 and a half years ago. Made me sick, tense and jittery (not nic withdrawl jittery, much much worse) but that was it, and a year and a half later I was smoking again thanks to stressors in my life. My ex, however, took it -- his doc told him it was fine, he's ADHD and bipolar, and he went into a bipolar spin even with his medications for it, he ended up doing a super high then crashing and having to be watched by his friends and miss 2 weeks with his son in order to rebound from it. He was deeply suicidal. Its very scarey what it does, especially with any underlying issues that you may or may not know about, and apparently the medical field doesn't care and continues to prescribe it even though it causes these problems.

I took Chantix and it made me very sick the whole time I was on it. Was sick to my stomach and would have to eat saltines all day to lose the sick feeling. I did quit smoking but went right back after the prescribed treatment, for the amount of money I paid for it (my health insurance would not cover it) . It was not worth it to me. Just my 2 cents. :)

Well, I have only one thing to say about Chantix. It is not allowed to be prescribed by military or Veteran's Administration doctors. When I asked about it a few years ago they told me it was because the side effects were worse than smoking, and that MANY people that take Chantix have the effects, not just the minor "small percentage of people" that the ads suggest.

Oh yea, AND Chantix has been banned by the FAA for pilots. Chantix prescription = NO flying planes.
