I have a few 25Rs on order with solder tabs that I plan on using in a few mods that I don't intend to open very often. I have one mod body on order from Shapeways and am designing the second one now. While I'm waiting to build the mods, I want to charge up these batteries to ensure that they don't go bad.

Does anyone have any experience with pre-charging Lithium Ion batteries in a standard charger with the solder tabs attached? I presume it should be fine, but I presume I need to be doubly careful about the tabs not touching.

The tabs shouldn't make any difference as long as the cell still fits properly in the charger. And what you said...don't let the tabs touch.

The tabs could cause a problem in your mod though depending on how much current you'll be drawing from those cells. A lot of tabs are just lightly spot-welded on and that results in a fairly high resistance connection that can overheat if a lot of current is flowing. This heat can damage the cell over time.
