Hi All,
I purchased an FT cherry Bomber clone. I have to say that I'm not happy. It is built like a tank and hits like a Mac truck. But everything I put on it tastes like metal. I've tried the Goliath tank, Arctic tank, Dark Horse RDA, and Derringer RDA. Same thing with all of them. I soaked it in alcohol, washed it with soap and water in the sink, and cleaned it with my jewelry cleaner for three cycles. Still the same thing. Vape tastes like metal. None of the attys I've tried taste like metal on any of my other devices which include: ZNA50, DNA40, REO, and 4Nine. I run my attys at 0.25 to 0.3 ohms and my Arctic is running a 0.5 ohm coils. Very weird. Anyone having this issue besides me?

Running with the limited information you've provided, avpx...

Your resistance values all draw the same wattage, from all your mech mods. The fact that the Cherry Bomb has two 18650s rather than one, as with your other mechs, should make no difference what-so-ever... as your resistances all draw less than the potential of a single 18650 30A or even 20A MCCD battery mech, and certainly less than the wattage potential provided by two 18650s in parallel.

As your two VW devices actually apply less wattage (50 max) to the 0.25Ω / 0.3Ω builds than any of the mechs are capable of (71 & 59 watts at 4.2V respective)... at least with those resistances, they aren't relevant.

So... to mirror both your and Ed's first thoughts... yeah, weird.

Just out of curiosity - and even though it should have no effect on performance with your current resistances (other than run time) - try running your CB in single 18650 mode, using a battery from one of the single tube mechs.

Thanks for the suggestion State O Flux. I hadn't thought to try the CB with one battery. (I run genuine Samsung 25Rs). The metallic taste was dramatically reduced when I tried the Goliath. The rest maintain the nasty taste of metal.

Chipotle.
They say what you taste is a large percentage of what you smell at the time. Perhaps you're sensitive to the smell the box is putting off which is skewing your perception of the actual flavor due to smelling it as you bring it near your face, after all the cherry bomber is untreated aluminum. Have you owned an untreated aluminum mod before this one? Did you have issue with it? May sound strange, but smell something else while you're using it or plug your nose for a pull or two. Aluminum that has been exposed to human hands can start to smell quite strange, you can also try washing it in vineagar + baking soda, let it fizz a bit to really get going.

Knowing what I know about your predicament, only a few things come to mind.
Assuming batteries are as near identical as you can have them, would be a substantial variation in voltage drop, one mech to the next... where a good portion of current is wasted to Joule (resistive) heating.
With that variation, a good percentage of available current wouldn't be delivered to the atty build.

That still doesn't explain the taste.

Another thing, which may tie into the above theory, and might explain the taste... is that one of your devices - lets assume the CB - is delivering full or at least "better" current, while the other mods are not... so, less heat is being generated at the coil.

Running with that, lets say that the atomizer is getting hot enough to "cook" it's positive insulation, or some other nearby plastic. If it's cheap stuff, something less than PEEK for example, it could start to melt at that low a resistance... and gassing off a metallic taste.

I'm out of theories... ciao

Doesn't sound all that strange, Froth... considering other, even less likely options. ;)

This. One of my friends has bought several Woodvils and says they all make her vape taste like wood. I've been suggesting that she's smelling it as she's vaping.
