Good morning, peeps!

Lots to do and less time to do it!

I had to take Wiseguy out to the round pen to let him get some of the springtime bouncies out before hitching him up this morning so I am taking a break. I'll need to get him to run around the pen a bit and then hitch him.

It does feel a bit like spring here. 30's at night and low sixties in the day time for the next few days. This may not last and winter may return!

Can't wait to see the sleeping puppy, Terry.

SandySu - Interesting topic and I may have to revisit this in the future. The thunderbird and other mythical creatures could be based on some of the megafauna that existed during the ice age.

I gave up on Wiseguy getting into the cart right now. Too jumpy. i'll have to get him into the round pen, run him ragged and give it another try. I'm not even sure if I want to deal with Nevada right now either. Maybe later.

What I find interesting, similar to UFOs, is that if authorities (whoever they may be) haven't seen it, it doesn't exist. Many of these mysterious animals have been seen in wilderness areas in Africa and Australia, and since primitive people are those reporting the sightings, they aren't believed. Yes, primitive people do rely on magic and folklore a lot more than modern people, but they also can notice animals, even rare ones, that outsiders might not come across. I'm not sure if their reports should be taken less seriously than anyone else's.

The only reason modern science believes in coelacanths is that they have been observed by credible witnesses (scientists) and they have been captured and photographed. Before that, they were considered extinct for the last 65 million years.

Why are your horses so jumpy today? Is it windy? That always makes horses a little weird.

The wind is pretty strong here today. But it's bright and sunny and not too cold, either. A gorgeous day.

Then, after a short break to drink water and harass Hubby over when are we going to town because I am hungry and he is buying me lunch, I'll go out and work a more tired Nevada.

I'll get Wiseguy out into the round pen again later today and see if we can't get some of the beans worked out of him.

Good morning....It's raining AND snowing here. Unfortunately it is turning to mostly rain and the snow isn't sticking. They are forecasting 2-5" overnight and another 2-5" Sunday. I really doubt we'll see 10" of snow or even 5" but one can hope.

I just got up so I haven't read about the Thunderbird yet but I agree with your first sentence and with what Sandy said.

Windy days always spooked the horses at the barns I boarded at. It made them really frisky. They can get that way when they sense something that we can't like an earthquake or some nasty weather on the way.

One interesting side note is that I grew up in Philadelphia, where, as a child, I watched a children's show, Bertie the Bunyip. Little did I know till yesterday that it was an Australian monster. The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia

Wow! What a great job! I think I can see why it was a shading nightmare. The photo has lots in shadow that you brought out details from very well. I actually like your drawing better than the photo! The one difference from the photo I can see is that the dog's right eye (on our left) is slanted so the outside edge is higher than in the photo. Does that really matter? I wouldn't notice anything wrong, but with the photo beside it, it is a difference. Another thing I can't quite put my finger on is the space above his nose to between his eyes. Maybe it's just the darker shading in the photo? If so, I like it that I can see more details in your drawing.

Thanks Sandy for the very high compliment and for your feedback. You're right about the left eye. It does need more of a curve. The dark spot you mentioned needs to be blended in more so it doesn't stand out so much. I've looked at this puppy for so long that I'm blurry eyed.

If I do I'm likely to lose a lot of the white hairs. I don't have anything that will draw white over graphite. Should I try it or is it dark enough? Well, so much for the snow. It turned to rain right after I posted this morning and hasn't stopped yet. I took this pic through my kitchen window with my phone so it isn't very good but should give you all a good idea what it's been like here for weeks. My car doesn't know if it's a car or a boat. This would depress anyone.

If you can't get all those little hairs blacker, I think that's OK. The main difference I can see is that the top dark area over the eyeball is a lot darker in the photo. And you made the bottom dark enough, so I think you could make the top as dark. There's just the faintest lighter area in toward the nose. You made a dark rim at the bottom of the top eyelid (or whatever it is), so I think you can darken the rest of it, too.

This is another very good drawing. I think I like the puppy better because I can see the whole thing, but I understand that you want to practice eyes.

BTW, how did you make that one dark hair that comes out of the tuft of dark above the eye? That's black enough, and it's a very fine line. So you can make really dark, fine lines.

Those were the good old days...not The good news is you have lots of green where you live and I do not have hardly any green where I live.

Gee, I think you did a good job with the eye. The pupil is really good.

I tutored today. I don't know why, but the kids just didn't seem in the mood for work, so we played most of the time. I tried to get them to do some reading comprehension exercises, and the girl did 2, but the boy slopped through one and then didn't want to do more. I gave him a worksheet where he had to decide whether to put a or an in front of word combos, like "clean shirt" and he got them right, but when I asked him to make sentences for 5 of his vocab words, he missed an "an" and wrote something like "a apple," though it was some other word -- I don't remember now. I reminded him of the worksheet he had just done. And still! To capitalize the first word of a sentence. They both don't do that yet.

So the rest of the time, they did word searches and Mad Libs.

Next time, I made up word searches just for them, with their vocab words. And I'll take a Scrabble game and see how that goes. BTW, I found a neat site that'll make a word search for you. Just give it a list of words and click!
