Good morning, Voltpeeps!

We had a lovely camping trip.

We started out on Thursday. The weather was fantastic. We drove out through Mason and Smith Valley. We went through Wilson Canyon. The Walker River was beautiful. We went over the Sweetwater mountains and then dropped down into Mono Lake.

Mono Lake was a beautiful color and there was wind whipped foam on the surface in long bands. We kept going, stopping at the Ranger station to get our campstove permit. Yes, in CA you actually need a campstove permit. Of course, no campfires are allowed.

We decided to do the Inyo Craters and the earthquake fault first. The trees were big and tall. Very pretty. The craters were a couple of large holes blasted out of the earth. The fault is a ten foot wide gap that is about twenty feet deep. with twisted rocks on the side.

Then, we went through Mammoth and onto Convict lake where we got some photos.

We drove around a bit and then found a campsite in a remote location near the Owen river. The Owen has famous trout fishing and is one of the rivers that feeds Los Angeles water.

It was still windy. We cooked our trout and our butter and almonds but it took a long time. We realized that the campstove was not working properly. The regulator was messed up.

We finally got something to eat and then rolled out onto our tarp in our sleeping bags. We didn't bring a tent since the weather was supposed to be great.

The next morning we woke up covered in dew:) Still, it was not cold out. It was very smoky due to the fire by Pollock Pines.

We struggled to make a breakfast with our campstove limping along. Of course, coffee was the most important part of the morning. We finally got some boiling water and had a nice French press of coffee. I rehydrated the hash browns and we tried to fry them and we had dehydrated scrambled eggs. Just put the water in the bag and wait 6 minutes. The bacon was not crispy but it was cooked well enough.

More camping trip later.
