Rave came for a visit today. A short visit because she wanted to get back home before dark. Understandable. She helped me prune some lower branches that were blocking my view into the woods. I was getting the larger branches with a chain saw until the battery died. :( Then we went for a stroll in my woods and help me identify some of them. There were some she couldn't indentify some she made up a name that I can't say here. We gathered up a lot of small dead limbs for kindling and also found that a lot of my poplar trees are dead or dying. :( We had a great time and I hated to see her leave.

Thanks so much for your help Rave. I'll repay you by helping you with your shed. :p

T'was my pleasure, Terry. You had your very first Deforestation Day. It will be one of many. I'm glad that we got a lot of the saplings out of the way and many of those nasty multiflora roses. Those things are  You didn't tell 'em that your chainsaw battery died whilst cutting down a poplar, and so I just reached over and pushed the whole derned tree down. You shoulda seen your expression. That was priceless. I had a good time too. :D

Are those white poplars? Their charcoal makes good black powder :D

Nope - sorry - They are yellow poplars often called tulip trees.

It would appear that sweet Raven has a salty vocabulary. Whooda thunk it !!!!!

"Salty"? Sometimes the best words for the occasion are ... colorful.

There's only one positive thing I can think of about snow, after you get past the "oh, it looks so pretty" stage. As long as you do your shopping early in the season!

I hear it only lasts a few days here. It could get old fast if it lasted all winter.

Last winter was brutal, so the snow sometimes stayed on the ground for a few weeks. Back in Chicagoland, you wouldn't see the ground from November until March some years. It's nothing like that here.

It's not all that new to me. I lived in Colorado for 5 yrs and 1 year we had a blizzard that left 4' hard packed drifts. I could walk over the fences. I dug a 3' path to my trash barrel. I have a pic of my cat sniffing the wall of snow. Too cute. LOL!

OK, so you're used to snow, though not recently, and I bet Indiana doesn't get as much as Colorado.

What I don't like is the extreme cold. We had a really cold winter last year, and it was not fun.

I haven't given a tutoring report in a long time. They all started to seem pretty much the same. But I'll update you all.

The boy is doing really well. He started out being really restless and inattentive, but now he has really begun to focus. And since I told his mom this, I think he has taken more pride in his work and is getting even more focused.

Meanwhile, the girl has turned into the person the boy used to be. She is about at the stage of learning he was at, so I wonder if it's something about the stage or age, but her mom says she just doesn't want to do the work. She has been applying herself more since the zoo outing is planned. I think offering an outing and holding it over their heads is a strong motivator.

I hope the weather will be OK to go a bit over 60 miles from Ithaca to the zoo in Syracuse. They say "snow showers" in both areas, but often, Syracuse's snow is worse than ours. And "snow showers" can mean a few flurries or a full-blown snowstorm. Who knows? So, guys, say a prayer or send vibes or whatever so that we can actually go as planned. The kids deserve a treat. They've worked hard.

Ya ever walk into a room and realize that everyone is talking about you - then they immediately shut up?

Great to hear about the kids. I was wondering how their tutoring was progressing. I'll send good vibes for wonderful weather for the trip to the zoo. :)

Here's another fall-themed good-night photo.

Oh wow! Wonderful complementary colors!! Snagged it for a puzzle. But, you knew that I would, didn't ya?

Good morning guys.
I found purple mushrooms next to the stable.
They look pretty and the whole body is purple like these

They seem to be Clitocybe nuda and are edible but i'm not sure. (don't want to try, maybe if i can feed a stranger first :D :D )
I forgot to take them with me.

 Those are gorgeous mushrooms. Never saw anything like them.

Good morning,
Voltpeeps.

Loved all the photos of Terry's new place. The discussion on what to do with the door was interesting.

SandySu, thanks for the update on the kids and their schooling.

Raven - Good job on showing Terry the ropes. You mighty tree pushing over girl you.

It's chilly today and it might rain. I can only hope that it reaches me. Yard clean up has commenced but I have a lot of time for that. I think I'll pick up the house and rest up some today.

I had Hubby bring home some Chinese food since I didn't get to the kitchen yesterday. Yeah, shame on me:) I got it cleaned up this morning!

I have the new watering system running since it is just above freezing. Looks like the new setup is working great!

Trit, those purple mushrooms are interesting! Like Rave, I never saw them. I bet we don't have them here, or at least they are rare.

I've got to head out to the barn soon and put Penny's blanket on her. It's supposed to snow this afternoon. How much, I don't know. And tonight it'll be really cold, so I want the blanket on her overnight, even though she'll be in her stall at night.
