Sitting down, facing forward.
'moanin, Voltatics.

The chicks are cute, Ducky. Heck, all little animals are cute even the ugly ones. It's fun to watch them grow and go through stages of awkwardness, learning how to adapt as they grow.

No answers yet to the origins of "honeymoon". Hmmmm. Remember, no fair using Google!

After a hot, humid day yesterday we've got a gorgeous couple of days on tap. It's about 70 right now and the humidity is low with a nice breeze. I've got the windows open and am enjoying the fresh air wafting through the house.

It'll be a normal Saturday for me. Laundry already in the washer and then working outside after breakfast. Maybe, someday, I'll get the mulch project actually completely completed. As much as I shovel and produce decent fill it seems like the pile just grows, even though I haven't added to it, yet.

I meant to mention earlier, recipes are no problem, Tritium. I was "charged" with maintaining all my Mother's recipes so I have al of them, safely stored, on a PC and backup drives.

Your nearest hydrogen bomb.
Hello!
I repaired my hole.
On the bathroom there is a siphon or how you call it where all pipes go and the round grill thing fell off because the square base broke...
I had to fit a new one and i used my dremel to make it fit and placed a new one with tile cement.

awsum maybe there are a few new ideas there like pasta flora. :)

Good morning, Voltbirdwatchers.

It didn't cool off much last night! Right now 69 degrees and it will be only 95 degrees today and supposedly a bit cooler tomorrow. Let's hope so since 100 degrees is absurdly hot.

The chicks are adorable.

I got the two stair treads made of 8'by 30". I'm going to join them together and then put the 5 left over 16' boards on top. I leveled all the concrete blocks the floating stair will sit on. That took quite awhile yesterday. I also added a front 2x6' board to support the 2x6 that stuck out at the end of the deck where the steps are going. Didn't want it rocking every time we stepped up and down. All of that took me all morning!

Five hours and I had to finish the second stair tread in the afternoon. I couldn't work for long in the afternoon since it was so hot. Out to cut a couple of boards, in. Out to drill holes in the boards, in. Out to screw it together, in. At least it is ready for launch.

I need to go to Lowes and pick up some more concrete pavers, some electrical conduit and something else I better think of before I leave.

That deck looks great, Lizzie! I'm really impressed. Cash has grown into a very handsome fellow, too.

Awsum, where does the word "honeymoon" come from? I didn't cheat and look it up, so you must tell us.

Thanks, Sandysu. We have a few more details to do and then done!

Sitting down, facing forward.
'moanin, and Happy 4th of July Voltaticalytes and lurkers. It's a good time to think about where this nation came from and the sacrifices and intentions of those that started it. On the other hand, celebrating the 4th does combine two of Americas favorite things, alcohol and explosives.

We were supposed to have a really nice day, but the prognosticators guessed wrong. It's overcast and humid this morning and there are showers down in Cape May. Oh well, weather is an exact science, so they imply. I hope it doesn't rain. We need to change the netting on the blueberry enclosure, chased a squirrel out of there yesterday, and we're scheduled for steak and tails on the grill tonight.

Lizzie, you're making me think, seriously, about getting a deck project going here. We could use one on the front of the house and I keep putting it off. You guys are doing a really nice job there!

Does everyone know what mead is? Mead is probably the oldest alcoholic beverage known to man, predating wine (sorry wine fans). Remember Beowulf, a lot was consumed in that one and it appears in even older literature. It's made by fermenting honey with water, and sometimes can have added spices, fruits and flavorings including hops. Yeast is the active fermenting agent and the alcohol content is usually around 20% or so.

The term "honeymoon" stems from the custom of the happy couple drinking mead every day for a lunar cycle after getting married, or probably some sort of joining ceremony back then, to celebrate(?) the event. Hence the term "honeymoon". I suspect it was more to make the participants, errr, ahh, maybe more "cooperative" and relaxed.

Thanks for the explanation, Awsum. (You know, the auto-correct here keeps wanting your name to be Aksum? I have to be alert to that, so if I ever misspell your name, blame it on the computer, not on me!)

I had mead here -- Earle Estates Meadery | Finger Lakes Wine | Torrey Ridge Winery | Award Winning Wines -- some years ago. I don't remember what it tasted like, but I remember I was disappointed -- I didn't like it much.

One interesting thing they had was honeycomb with bees in it behind a sheet of glass, so you could see inside a hive.

I also remember while there, spotting a praying mantis, which I hadn't seen in a long time, maybe since childhood.

    Happy Fourth of July.

    Nice to see you Uncle.

Thanks for the compliments on my project, folks. I have a short list of items to accomplish tomorrow and then the deck is done done until I get the materials for one more step and then staining the deck.

Finally, door trim but that can wait for a couple of weeks.

The photo of the completed, non-tool scattered deck will be tomorrow:)

We are going to a potluck this afternoon.

    'afternoon, Voltizens.

Happy Independence Day to everyone! Don't over do the alcohol or explosives and remember what it's about. If you get a chance watch the "legends and Lies" series on FNC, Sundays at 8PM and replayed, the following Saturdays as well. It's covering the Patriots and I, for one, have learned history that I never knew. Sometimes I wonder if we have the mettle that those who started the Nation had, then I watch a movie or read a book, like "13 Hours" and realize that we have, at least, some that do.

We're doing hot dogs on the grill, if it doesn't rain. It was supposed to be rainy today, but that got pushed back until this evening or tonight. We were outside working in the yard and the heat and humidity were really nasty. We're inside now with the AC cranking away.

    'moanin, Volties.

Well, we saw Uncle, for a second or two, but I wonder about Rave, Wuzz and how Terry's doing.

It's a dreary day after here. We got a lot of rain overnight that has moved out, but the clouds and humdidity are still hanging tough. Actully, the clouds are a good thing since they're keeping the temperature down quite a bit. It's still 76, and feels like 85, outside just from the humdidity.

I'm going to be puttering in the basement today doing a few things I've been procrastinating with.

    'moanin, Voltaticapeeps.

I'm looking forward to the deck photos, Lizzie.

It's going to be a hot, humid, day here so I'm going outside early and want to be inside by noon. The heat index is supposed to be around 100. Looks like the AC won't be getting a break until Sunday, unless it does actually break.

Yesterday we got a letter from the County government telling us we were automagically enrolled in a new, county wide, power co-op to save us some money. There had been no notification prior to this and to not participate you have to take action by "opting out" which requires providing your current provider account number to the new supplier. That, by itself, to me is an invasion of privacy and a security risk.

The rates mentioned in the letter did show a little savings, like about two bucks a month, but really weren't a complete rate schedule. We all get bills for the first x number of kwh, a different rate for the next x number of kwh and so on, and the rate changes for each step, of course. Why a different rate, other than just being punitive, for each "step" boggles my mind. It costs the same thing to generate, no matter how much is used, especially in a residential environment. Without providing a full rate schedule exactly how they can even say that there is a savings, and provide an amount of savings, beats the heck out of me. Needless to say we "opted" out.

What's really aggravating is that it was "automatic", without our permission. I sent an email to the County Freeholder, the County Government is Republican by the way, who lead the effort explaining my objections and expressing my outrage. Her response was that this is to provide alternatives in a market that has no alternatives. That's funny since we usually get one or two letters a month from other alternative suppliers, not to mention solar all the solar generation solicitations. It does make me wonder whose bread got buttered with this one.

Given that most people probably won't even read the letter in the first place, no doubt this "wonderful" program will be proclaimed a "wonderful success".
