Hi there everyone. So I have been free of analoge cigs for 3 weeks. Here is my story.

The Begining

For the first 12 days, I was apsolutly free of everything becasuse I was ill with a bad flu and throat, so was not physically able to smoke. Lucky I guess. Thought, this was my chance to go completely free of cigs. I smoke cigs in the car so knew that as soon as I was drving, I would want a cig again so got into E-cigs.

Joined this forum before I purchased anything, and right off people were saying, Go for a 510, also the Ego or Riva 510.

Purchaing my first E-cig

So, went for a 510 and a Riva510 (Ego).
For a guy, this is a good choice. If you want something that resembles a real cig, go for a standard 510 (not one of those that actually look like a real cig, as they may look like them, but they are not very good at vaping)

The Riva, this is another level. It is awkward to hold, and heavy, but wow, really worth it. Battery life is all night and it is a more powerful device.

I also got a 510 with PCC kit, meaning I can charge the 510 while on the move. Totally wicked have a sale on that item right not (which I missed out on :().

Purchasing my first juices

As big a question as which e-cig to get will be, which e-liquids to get. As a newcomer, you have no idea what tastes good and what you will like. Real tastes do not equate to what you like with e-juices. If you like coca cola, does not mean you will like coca cola flavor vaping. So what did I go for.

1. Spirmint 0 nic
soothing on the neck, but little Throat Hit (TH), vaping this was ok, made me want a bit of a kick. So i would go alternate. One cig worth of vaping with this spirmint, then one with 11mg nic, then back to the spirmint.

2. Cigar 0 nic
More of a kick than the above, but treated the same way, where I go alternate cigar to 11mg nic.

3. Menthol 11mg - this is the nic choice. Nice TH, not like a real cig, but just about does for me.

Question - Why did I not go 0 nic all the way considering that I was cig free for 12 days. Honestly, becasue I could not find a good enough TH with 0 nic. It leaves me wanting the TH. BUT what I said to myself is, if I was going to go with nic, then to make it the lowest possible which is either 8 or 11mg. I would love more, like 26mg or even 18, but i'm not going to go there becasue what I really what is to go nic free after a while if I can.

Carts / attys or cartomisers

Next question is, I have my juice and I want to vape, so what to plug into the battery. You have a few choices.

Cartridges + Attomiser - Most would say this is where you get the best taste, and they are probebly right. Problem is, you can only drip a few drops on to the attomiser at one time. Basically you can get about 1 cig worth of vaping from the drops, then you have to open up, get juice out and drip, drip, drip. Now you could go for a drip tip. This means you drip right into the cartridge and it goes into the attomiser. Easier. Be carful not to get juice around the tip of the cart. Drip tip carts have to be purchased.

Cartomiser - This device has the cartridge and attomiser in one device. I have 2 different ones, one from Liberty flights, that is LR (Low resistance) it is of the small size. LR = more throat hit (I think)

So how much juice can it use. When you get one, it will come with 2 caps, covering the atty side and the mouth side. The mouth side has a larger cap. Fill up this cap 3/4 full. then take the cartomiser, the end which goes into the battery, and push it down into the cap. The juice will go into the cartomier. this is called the condom method. This is roughly how much juice is held, maybe a bit more. In conjunction with another e-cig on the go, this keeps me going most of the evening. Maybe 5-7 cigs worth. 4 at the lowest.

The other cartomiser I had was from Totally wicked, pre filled. This is a large sized one, 1/4 larger (or more) than the normal size. THIS IS THE BEST. Holds around 2mg of juice. Got this as 11mg menthol. Very nice, liked it a lot. Because they hold more juice, you can go an entire evening with one.

Tip - fill up the cartomisers when you go to bed, let the juice lie in there for a night.

Refilling a cartomiser - YES YOU CAN, I have refilled my 3 times and still working very well. Don't know how long it will go for but I will refil till it dies.

Fell off the wagon

So about 3 days into vaping. I still have 30 or so real cigs in the car. Marboro Lights. Don't know why but just really wanted a real cig, so sparked one up. WOW, Tasted horrible. Took 3 puffs and chucked it.

Now I have seen similar things on here before, and always thought, Nah, not me, if I am weak enough to go back onto real cigs, that would be real bad becasue I would love it. Now keep in mind, I had been clean for about 15 days. May not get this if you have one after 7 days, but 2 weeks clean, and maybe you will get this too.

What is important, if this happens to you is, don't have another one, or go through the bad taste. I did it once, and maybe in another week or 2 I will do it again, but it will be the same, horrible taste. However, if I forced myself to have a whole one, then smoke 5 in a go, yeah maybe the old days will return.

Maintenance

This is more time consuming than smoking real cigs. With real ones, you get it, light it and smoke it. With e-cigs, you have to keep filling up carts, and be prepared for leaks. Be aware, when you take off a cartomiser or cart and atty, some juice coming out. If you have nic in there, this is actually absorbed by the skin, not good.

Charging batteries. Got to do it.

I tell you what I purchased - A plastic tool / bits box. Small ish box with 10 or so compartments.

Health issues with e-cigs

Truth is, no one knows. So when you see the adverts that give you the vibe of, health cigs. Be careful. If you have it with nic - then nic is poison. as for the PG and VG. There are around 20 chemicals in an e-cig, now some would say, look at PG, it is in our foods. However, we are making it into vapor and breating it into our lungs. As no one has any clinical data, we don't actually know how much harm we are doing by vaping. Of course it is much better than real smoking, but not health issue free.

Conclusion

If real smoking was as safe as e-cigs, I think a lot of people would go for real cigs. However, there are some flavors with e-cigs that you can't get with real cigs. Like apple crumble. Tastes like you are eating the real desert lol.

TH - I can only talk about 8 - 11mg, and at that level, 75% of the TH that you would get from a real cig. Some say you can get more of a TH with e-cigs than you can with real cigs. I would not know.

Can you give up real cigs and go E-cigs. OF COURSE YOU CAN. Personally, I said to myself, it is nott going to be as good as real cigs, but, slap yourself in the face and deal with it, this is your health you're dealing with.

Hope this helps some newcomers. Feel free to correct any of the info above, I am no expert.

Thanks buddy - hey can I get one of those things at the bottom of my posts that tells everyone (and myself) how many days I have been smoke free and how many cigs I have not had.

I have one of those that I bookmarked, but I can't find the edit signature area on this forum. It's weird I am a member of several other (non PV) forums and I never have a problem finding it.

Anyway, here is one: http://ecigwiki.info/banner/butt2/banner.php?pd=20&pr=6.50&qd=2010-10-28

Modify the pd (# of smokes a day), pr (price of reg cigs) and qd (quit date)

Edit: now it's there... go to settings on the top and under my settings, select edit signature. Weird, it wasn't there earlier.

Just to clarify a couple of things...

There are alternatives to carts and cartomizers, and one of them is dripping.
I haven't had to deal with any leaking issues since I started dripping.

Having said that, getting a little juice on your skin here and there is not really an issue at the lower nicotine strengths levels.
After awhile lots of people don't even bother cleaning it off anymore.

But yeah, you probably don't want to stick your finger in a bowl of juice and let it sit there for awhile.
:)

There have been studies done regarding PG inhalation...
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...able-glycerin-vg-polyethylene-glycol-peg.html

Most people feel pretty safe with regard to inhalation.
The main thing to be concerned about is the flavorings, where there is little or no data available regarding inhalation.

I would be careful how you word things like this in a review of sorts because when new people read this they will get the wrong idea. A drip tip is a tip that goes onto an atomizer that has a large opening so you can drip right onto the atty while the tip is on the atty. It is not dripping right into the cartridge. That is just refilling the cartridge.
Nice post and keep it up.

dripping works well for me. not nearly as inconvenient as it sounds (thats what kept me from trying it for the first couple weeks). When I smoked I had to dig out a pack, remove one cig, put it back, dig out a lighter.... Now i just get out my EGO and the 5ml bottle I carry. pop the top add a couple drops and good to go. I tried a "drip tip" but found with the larger hole the draw becomes too "airy" and so just use a blank cart for mouthpiece. This also really minimizes what accessories I have to carry with me. EGO + 5ml is a lot more comfortable in a pocket than an analog box + lighter.

I did have my first "negative" resulting from not smoking analogs the other night.......It was kind of chilly so I decided to light the heater in my workshop..............not a lighter to be found anywhere. Bummer...No heat for me.

'Can't stand analogues'.

Yes I agree, but one this I do miss is the weight. E-cigs are so heavy, and if you have the manual button, they do take more brain power to operate, which I have found, can take a user longer to relax, rather than analoges.

Yeah the weight was a little weird at first and the button was odd but for the health benefits (and my general smell) I think I can deal with it. :)
