@SteveS45, I actually quit smoking and vaping altogether for 5 years (ever since using the cigalike in 2010). I decided to start using nicotine again in 2015 after reading about its nootropic effects and pulled out my old cigalike. The battery was dead, so I went online and saw that there was a whole new world of vaping devices out there. And now, like you, I have a nice arsenal ;)

For two years or more I was dual using and kidding myself I was "cutting down". My sweetheart and I started at the same time but she quit. Then one day I woke up and said this was the last day I ever buy another pack of smokes and for 2 to 3 weeks I dealt with the withdrawals. At first I was refilling the cartridges with 18-24 MG but I started to get concerned with the condition of the cotton that I was reusing so often. I would dispose of them when they started to taste crappy. Finally I bought the iStick and the Nautilus Mini and after sampling 100's of flavors I actually found one I liked! Now I DIY and have over 60 flavors sitting next to me and a few unopened yet a little to the left.

Go at your own pace. I started with Halo G6 and Volt and still like them when I travel. Don't feel that you have to jump into big, powerful mods all at once. There are plenly of EGO devices out there; pen style devices that you could use as a step up. Also, read Baditude's linked blogs noted above; his information is excellent.

90% of vapers find that even at first if they cared about 'what people thought' or they 'didn't want to look like one of *those* idiots' and insisted on the most cig-a-like device possible, kept vaping, gave up tobacco and now don't care one bit and have succumbed to shiny-itis and now own at least 1 RX200 and a VTC Mini with a handful of tanks and drippers... ;)

I'm never going to tell someone to just bypass what they are really interested in. But on a horribly practical level there simply aren't many options - not very good ones anyway - left in the marketplace for cigalike gear.

When a big player like Joyetech dumps basic cigalikes from their catalog no one in the marketplace is saying "Oh! Now I see a really good opening here!" Far from it. You are left with a few expensive, proprietary options that may lock you in to purchases from a single web site - never a good idea. Ironically, you may be purchasing the most expensive cost/benefit gear available to get that small size.

Keep in mind when you look at any of this stuff: No - a single pre-filled cartridge does not equal a pack of cigarettes. Never has - never will. When you look at the cost of consumables - in addition to the relatively low quality vape experience - that alone is enough to turn many people right off and go back to smoking. Depending on where you live those pre-filled cigalike cartos can turn out to be more expensive than smoking. Not kidding.

One last thing to consider: If you are trying to quit smoking buying something that tries really really hard to look or feel like a cigarette may not be the best idea. When I started vaping I wanted distance from cigarettes - not something in a form to remind me of what I was trying to get away from. From what was available at the time skipped the cigalikes and headed straight for eGo batteries.

If you must, you must - just be aware of what you are getting into. :2c:

Some people don't "understand" the psychological + look and feel that some of us get and like with having some cigalikes, or a small device like Joyetech AIO. It is very satisfying.

I've been vaping 4 years and I still like this stuff, and find it has a place in my vaping arsenal. Not everybody wants to "hoist" a weighty object to their lips to vape.

I would suggest to the OP a Joyetech AIO, Eleaf iJust Start Plus, Innokin Endura T18

I will never understand this telling people not to consider cigalikes or small vape gear because 1/2 the people I know AREN'T on internet vaping forums, aren't hobbyists, and use them and /or used them to quit smoking, and are happily puffiing along......they are not hobbyist vapers, they just want an alternative to the cancer sticks. They are overwhelmed by overpowered box mods, subohm, batteries and chargers, etc. .

Plug and play devices are great for new vapers.

A lot of people work full time, they really don't want to be carrying heavy stuff around to jobs at hospitals, lawfirms, corporate jobs. I really do not want to be standing out at the rail at a horse race (crowded) with a big ol' vape thing, and NEVER see anyone else doing it either. The largest vape device I have seen at the races or the casino for an entire year in 2016 was somebody with an istick / nautilus, and that was the exception rather than the rule.

The original idea of vaping, at least when I joined back in 2012, was to get people off cigarettes.

The Njoy Daily's menthol are very good. There is a time of day, as the sun sets, that I love going out on my porch, watch the sun set, with a good SMALL vape .....Njoy Daily or my old Kangertech Evod kit that uses single coils........... nothing like it for me!

Weeks at a time, my provari and reo sit on the shelf.......un-used.

Also, keep in mind, not everybody "vapes all day long" ...... some of us just vape here and there, and are not tied to our vape device all day long. A Joyetech AIO, Eleaf iJust Start Plus, Innokin Endura T18 are perfect vape devices for somebody looking for plug and play to quit smoking, and maybe a few NJoy Dailys in the purse or glove compartment or desk drawer in case your device loses charge.

People who are on vaping forums tend to believe that they are "in the know", but they are kinda not when it comes to what people are using when they first decide to quit smoking and what the largest segment of the population is actually buying. Most people are gonna walk into a local B&M and get the simplest and reasonably cheapest device so they can get started. And some of them never "upgrade" to anything larger.

I have 3 women friends who are still using ego type devices and have not had a cigarette for 3 years! (they are middle aged and not 20-somethings looking for latest-greatest or mods or attending cloud competitions).

Please stop telling people not to buy beginner devices and cigalikes.....this is how so many people get off cigarettes out there in the real world......NOT with $100+ mods and complicated tanks, RDAs, RTAs, etc.
Well Said!!!!!!!!!, I too like the variety, have over 400 mods and one day it might be an ego or an eroll, next it might be a mec mod, next day a Sig 150...next day an AIO........they all have their place and as long as you adjust your nic level accordingly they can all bring satisfaction......some days lugging around the Jaybo with a 30mm dripper and a 120ml jug of the latest ben and jerrys juice is a PITA............and ill switch to a evod kit at 24mg and im lovin it..............

Like many, I started out on a cig-a-like. for me, it wasn't even the desire to quit smoking, but convenience when traveling and not having to take the elevator to the lobby of the hotel just to step out and have a smoke. First one or two didn't work (one was Blu, forgot the other), then I used Vuse. turns out Vuse has a wicked high concentration of nicotine in it (48 mg by their report). That did the trick and I stopped buying cigarettes the same day.

It was only after maybe 6 months I began to feel that $7 for 2 cartridges was a tad expensive. It was only then I turned more towards "real vaping", getting my first little vape pen with a plastic clearo on it. My first juice was luckily Halo Tribeca. That was it, I was sold! I love that stuff (and still struggle to find others as good). That's when I started reading more and exploring this place. After a crash course in vaping, I now have several mods and a bunch of tanks that are easy to use and work well for me.

Still, finding whatever that works for to stop smoking and is convenient is the most important step. Yes, if you start with a simple cartridge system you may eventually want to move onto a more feature rich mod and tank (or not). What matters is stopping smoking. After that, you can play around to your hearts content on improving the experience. If it looks like a cig-a-like cartridge feels the lowest maintenance, go for it. While it may not be the best vaping experience, or be all that cost effective over the long term, just pick something simple and go for it.

@Eskie your point about the lowest maintenance was the reason I picked the iStick TC40W and the Nautilus Mini. Then I started getting into flavors which for over a year was always Tobacco then the tank collection started to expand. They call it Shiny-itis but the majority of my MOD's are black.

@SteveS45, my first AIO was an Aspire Plato. A huge step up from a vape pen, and still my go to for running around pocket travel for the form factor and internal glass tank, so far less likely to break while out and about. My first "real" mod and tank were a Pico and a Triton mini. Picked it for the size and top filling of the tank.

Now I have a whole bunch of stuff, but it was that crappy cig-a-like that got me on the road. I wish I had known about this stuff first and saved a lot of money over those cartridges, but we all follow a different course.

I still say it if it wasn't for having stacks of e-Cigs Brand cartridges built up I would have never been able to become a former smoker. From using the pre-filled cartridges I learned how to refill them and when I finally ran out of the cartridges and went to buy more the company had doubled the price saying it was introductory. So I switched to the Logic brand and was using them for a while before I bought an iStick. Now I have 150w to 200w MOD's but still use the iStick for working and stealth vaping.

I have not read this entire thread but, before being totally turned off to the cigalikes I will tell you that many people out there need cigalikes in order to even think of quitting smoking.

Been trying to get my mom to stop smoking for 6 years now. We have tried everything that the vaping world has to offer. She has suffered many health ailments due to smoking. Still can't/won't give them up.

Recently suffered her 2nd heart attack. She is on oxygen and not able to smoke. She wanted to vape. I went to grab a small iStick 20W for her and she said, "no, those just don't do anything for me. I need to fool myself". She went to her purse and pulled out her pack of Njoys.

Njoys have always been most satisfying for her. After a 67 year "habit" it is the "habit" part that is giving her the most trouble IMHO. Sher needs the look, feel and taste of a real cig.

I am actually considering buying something that I just saw so that she can try them. I have no idea how good they are but they are priced well during this sale. The soft tips may appeal to her.

So, nobody here can tell you what will work for you. We are all very different. I have a hunch that there are plenty of people that quit using cigalikes and even still using them. Good luck to you.

Somewhere out there
I think cig a likes have their place for the new vaper. They resemble the size and shape they are used too. My fav cig aike disposable is White Cloud Flings. They are great for certain times and they have good flavors. I love the banana and peach :) I have tons of mods but sometimes that simple one is just fine and easy to grab!
Edit- during a move all I used were flings, I did not have time to fuss and they got me thru the stress of moving :)

I totally agree with you. Good to see some discussion on this regardless of how the thread started. :)
