There are a variety of cordless "nut drivers" with a 1/4" drive available... many of which have, including the charger base, a very small, easily packed form factor. Combine any of those, with a micro drill chuck... and the entire package is quite a bit smaller, and more easily packed than the average dedicated drill.

Historically I go for corded and high AMP so I can spin as fast as possible
I have a corded drill with kind of variable speed. But it goes really fast and has a speed knob on the trigger & a speed lock button to keep the chuck spinning if you take your finger off the trigger. It's a Drill Master. 3/8" variable speed 10mm keyless chuck 0-3000rpm. Originally I used it only for straightening wire but as I got better with claptoning and learned new tricks and such, it became the main drill I use to make coils. And I really don't feel like dropping $150+ on a decent battery powered drill with a chuck that fully closes in the center.

Same page, I was on the fence about getting something with a very controlled variable speed and a full closing chuck to attempt crazier builds with 4 cores and what not. I'm with you though on the corded. I can wrap a foot of 24/40 fused Clapton's on mine in under 2 mins. Just the button isn't as delicate as I like so aliens and staples can be a but tricky.

Yeah that's why I use my circa 1982 variable speed drill for new concepts I can't do quite as fast yet.

The chuck is eff'd beyond belief and is a keyed chuck. But the speed is super sensitive, for as old as it is, it's still working great. I just can't justify buying a battery powered drill at the moment when I want a new atty & am getting a dna 200 mod. But the drill master drill is great for doing long lengths of wire, like 3+ ft. If you're making a long length of fused Clapton, just get it going and press down on the button, the chuck will keep spinning and you can focus more on the wrap
