classifieds and why they arent real vendors

Well i have had a few good and a few bad expierences so far with the classifieds section.

But there is really a lack of any type of buisness etiquette or even common courtesy.
Here is a general example.

i manage to login at just the right time to catch a sellers post about an item.
i send a pm, with a questions or two
since i was lucky enuf to be the first viewer for said item, i get a quick response with answers to the questions.

i then respond with an offer(reasonable offer) and get no response.
later when i check to see if the offer was recieved, i get a item sold or no response at all..

now if my offer was too low, how about a no thanks. then i can make another offer before you sell it out from under the me, the first person who asked and was interested about it.

i understand there are no "rules" here but cmon a simple response that takes a second or two to write is not hard.

maybe if you respond and say thats to low, i have some one intersted after you if full price wont work for you..... hell i was prepared to offer more than the asking price on an item but was ignored

am i way off here?

Sounds like a price was posted, but you PM'd to offer less...? I wouldn't waste my time with you either.

Oh, and there are rules posted on that forum. Just not always adhered to.

Was it a screwdriver that was for sale? If it was that one there was no price. It just said to PM offers. I totally agree with you VaporX. If yours was the first offer the negotiation should have continued until either you or the seller was not happy and continued after that with someone else.

I agree, if there was no price posted. If there was a price posted then it is just simply an insult to the seller. I have had someone PM me and say is xxxxx item of yours doesn't sell for the asking price, let me know and I will pay xx.xx. That's ok IMO. But if there is a price, it is there for a reason.

I wonder how much time passed between when the item was first offered, when you read the offer, how long the PM to PM to PM transaction took and when you checked the last time?

My thinking...

While you were sending a PM to "ask questions", which would in no way be considered by most people as grounds for "holding it for you", someone else probably skipped the question step that you took and simply paid the asking price without any questions. If someone want's the item bad enough, I'm sure they could close a deal quite easily and without any major rush, during the normal time it would take for you to send your PM, seller to read and reply, you reply to their reply... etc... someone else simply bought it.

Would you think it in poor etiquette if you went to a car lot and "asked a question" about a car then walked away to get a drink from the water fountain and in that time someone else walked up and said "I'll take the car" without any questions them while you were away, even if for only a few minutes??

That's happened to me MANY times over the years online and off and I don't see it as anything the seller is doing wrong. They simply sold the item which was their goal anyway.

If you're shopping in ANY classifed section, why would you expect a seller to behave like a vendor who's looking for repeat business and good word-of-mouth. They just wanna sell something and move on.

That's a good idea. Many in there wanna sell used starter kits for about 20% more than I can get a new one. I usually just move on.
