The directions on my Silver Bullet say to not use alcohol to wipe out the connector as it will damage the silica. Is this the case for all mods or just the Silver Bullet? What should one use to clean those 510 threads if not alcohol?
If the instructions say not to use alcohol, I would suggest something like Simple Green. Non toxic and biodegradable.
I have been using IPA on my Rough Stack to clean out the connector. I didn't know the connector had silica in it. It looks all metal to me. But then again, I'm not familiar with the Silver Bullet. Maybe it does have silica.
I have several mods GLV2, and silver bullet ect and have used a bunch of 510 units in the past. I've never used anything other than a paper towel or cotton rag and my devices to clean those connectors. I also never clean my atty's I drip and if it starts to go South I'll run it at 5volts and/or 6volts which seems to make them work fine. As a rule of thumb, always use the mildest means possible to clean anything; especially electrical contacts. If spit works; use it, it's free and available to all humans.
There is indeed a small silicon ring inside the connectors. I agree that the safest way to clean them is a paper towel, q tip, etc. Stay away from any chemicals to play it safe.
