Short version: First batch tasted nasty after cleaning (like dirt or something). Second batch, it's like I'm vaping nothing but air. What the???

Long version--
Cleaned my first batch of cartos a week or so ago, following directions I found in a past thread:
1. Boiling water for 15 minutes.
2. Rinse with cold water.
3. Repeat boil, rinse.
4. Leave out a few days to dry.

And like I said, they tasted like they had dirt in them.

Second attempt, different batch. This time, after boiling and rinsing, put them in the oven at 175 for nearly 2 hours.
Filled one, and tasted like air.
Ok, not finished drying maybe, I thought.
It's 3 days later and still the same. A tiny of hint of flavor maybe, but pretty much just air.
:(

So what am I doing wrong??

Well, I hadn't even thought of that but I'm pretty sure no.
I've cleaned several different kinds: Ego cartos, 'Echomizers,' and a bunch of standard 808s from 2 different vendors. (Ego and Echo are also 808 threaded.)
I had only tested the standards before, so I just tried one for the Ego and it was the same deal: air.

If your vaping light colored juices just run hot water through them. Blow out and run more hot water through them. Do this till the filler is bright white. Then blow them out. Then cover center tube hole and continue blowing out till you can't get any more water out. Sit it battery side down and throught the day blow it out again. Then just let it air dry overnight. Should be dry in the morning. It might have a slight odor of the juice but It never seems to interfere with the new juice.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks. I will def. try one of them next time.

Still wish I knew why 'my' methods had such results, since I'm pretty sure I did just what others on ECF had described.
:grr:

If i can get +7 days out of something thats $2, I wont bother to clean them.

im a poor guy too!

At this point, I'm inclined to agree with you regarding the KR8 cartos. Those I can get for under a buck each.
The 808 Ego and Echomizers, however, are about $4 a piece, so I really don't want to give up on them yet.

Also, I'm still on the hunt for those handful of great juices to stick with, and I'm going through lots of samplers in the process, so some of those KR8s I've barely used.

Ah, the problems of newbie vapers ;)

I used the water cleaning method at first and had success with it but its soooo much work and fiddling to me. I am also very allergic to molds and was always worried about that but knew pg stops mold. Now I just run plain pg through them and vape through any remaining juice taste trying to match a new juice closely with whatever was in the cleaned carto... IE: tart fruit with tart fruit, sweet fruit with sweet, bakery with bakery, tobacco with tobacco, etc. even a juice I didn't like eventually works out of the carto this way... at least it has for me. Those it hasn't worked with such as perfume/soap taste, I remove the filler and use it as a taste testing atty after an alcohol bath.

If you like to marinate your meats, just pick up a bottle of Tony Chachere's Injectables. A syringe comes with it and with the "needle" removed fits a condom perfectly. Just clip the end of the long condom off, put it on the syringe and put your carto in it and plunge water through it. Prime the syringe first by letting water flow into it from the plunger end and it will move up and down easier. This is exactly the same thing as "The Plunger" but costs way less plus you have the marinade.

Edit: If its not in your local grocery stores, check the net.... bet you can find it there or your grocer may have another brand with the same syringe. I think they're pretty standard.

This works just fine for most cartos. Although some will defect if the atomizer and coil become saturated and then used directly after. Let it dry for a long period of time. At least a day.

I understand trying to recycle certain things to save money and to be as eco-friendly as possible, but cartomizers are designed to be disposable. You'll never get the polyfill good as new if you try to recycle them.

I spent $5 - 6 on cigarettes A DAY. Spending $2 on a carto that will last me 1-3 weeks is a bargain.
