Cleaning KR808 cartos: hard draw fixed!

The other day, I had two KR8 cartos get blocked up -- the super hard draw that usually causes me to trash them.

As an experiment, I looked down that center hole that you can usually see light through when you look through it. It looked like it was completely blocked.

Out of curiosity, I took a paper clip that was thin enough, once straightened, to go through the battery end of the carto, and took the Tip off. From the tip end, I started pushing it through the center hole until it came out the other side. It took out a bunch of the black stuff that was clogging my carto. Sliding it back and forth removed more black crud, which I was able to wipe off the paper clip.

A hot water rinse like I usually do when cleaning and presto! Good as new.

Unfortunately, some carto's have the coil going across the center-if you push a wire or other foreign object through the center tube you'll rip the coil out. Make sure your carto has a clear center tube when new (Boge for example) before doing this.
