The cartos I ordered from Eastmall with my Riva are plastic, so I'm assuming they're not okay to boil clean. How should I clean them, if at all?

I wouldn't try and clean them but if you do just use hot water. No need to boil anything,
boiling is overkill that some ppl do but isn't really necessary to achieve getting a prior flavor out of them. Use them for awhile and then toss them. They are cheap.

If those are the ones with the built in cone this won't work.
For reg cartos, there is a syringe with a soft rubber cone attachment for dosing kids that you can get at the pharmacy.
The end of the cone fits over the batty end of a carto perfectly.
Then simply run hottest water from tap into a bowl and draw in / push out through the carto about 20 times and you're done. Let dry a couple of days in a warm spot and you're good to go.

If they are simple, like my super mini carts, just pull the filler out and wash them with the dishes then let them dry. Hey, it's plastic so it washes with dish soap fine.
