Cleaning SS Wicks?

How often do you clean your SS wicks? I've been using mine for a month now on 2 of my did clones.

I don't take wicks out to clean them. The only thing I do is, once in a while, I'll squirt some Everclear into the tank to clean it out. Pull it back out with the syringe, and then dry burn the coil. I have wicks that are months old.

Thanks Rule62, I will try that next time I think it needs a cleaning. About how often do you do that?

I only do it if I'm making a drastic flavor change. Otherwise, if I'm changing flavors, and they're close, I don't do anything other than just fill and vape. I may dry burn, depending if there's any crud on the coils. I'm more particular about keeping my coils gunk free than I am about wicks.

I have a somewhat similar procedure.

Once I have a workable wick/coil setup, I prefer not to mess with it by taking it apart or the wick out.

I remove any remaining juice from the bottom of the tank I feel not like vaping with a syringe. I burn the remaining juice out of the wick by tipping the RBA/PV downward until the coils start to light up. Then I fill tank with .2 mls of PG and swirl it around to pick up any old juice from the walls of the tank and wetburn it away, again tipping the RBA/PV downwards to also dry up the wick of any leftover liquid/PG. Quick dryburn to ensure the coils are still glowing evenly, back to juice filling.

I repeat this procedure every 2 tanks, and do the same for ceramic wicks too.

Suck out juice, squirt in water, suck out water.

Repeat a few times, then dry burn the wick and toss in juice.

Takes like 2 minutes.

I do the same as stonedpeguin... I just drain the ejuice, flush with DI water, dry burn and check for hotspots/set-up, then refill.

Personally I feel that after a few tanks the draw on my cobra gets tighter with build up, though this may very well just be me. At this time I usually take the wick and let it soak in a shot glass full of everclear and use another wick and then rotate.

Been trying the drill bit method lately so that way I can just switch wicks cause my coil is still good by the time I feel I need to clean the wick.

Where do you get your sheets from?

When I need to clean a wick, I'll squirt 2 or 3 10ml syringes of almost boiling water (~190°) into the tank with the wick/hole pointing down. (We've got one of those hot water dispensers on the sink. So...) I used to use the steamer wand on my espresso machine, but this is quicker & easier.

If there's any gunk left around the coil, I use a small child's toothbrush to knock it off. Then I dry burn. I'm ready to refill & vape in a couple of minutes tops.

Hot water probably works just as well. I got into the habit of using Everclear from back in my CE2 cleaning days, because it evaporates faster than water.
