cleaning with moonshine

so my sister and her boyfriend have a jar of 100.5 proof moonshine. they got it sort of for novelty purposes and they absolutely hate it and have no plans of drinking any more of it. i know a lot of people use 100 proof vodka to clean mods and polish the contacts on there mods so do you think it would be ok to use this 100.5 proof moonshine to polish the contacts and clean the threads on my mods? also to clean my drip tips? i don't know why this would be a problem i just like checking up on things before i do it.

The only question I might have, I would use it, would be that real liquor has better quality control. The moonshine is probably just alcohol and water, like vodka.

I use it with no problems. Unless it's poor quality shine with contaminants, distilled alcohol is distilled alcohol.

That sounds like commercial moonshine, not the real stuff, so I wouldn't much worry about it. Real 'shine is rarely under 150-160 proof and some of it breaks 180. It's great for cleaning stuff, but no way would I drink it.

Modern vodka and legal moonshine are basically the same thing. Unflavored ethyl alcohol.

It's the illegal stuff that can be badly contaminated, although that's pretty rare anymore. Alcohol is just too cheap and easy to get. Now the good stuff, I've run into it, and it's really ... um, yeah. Tastes nothing at all like commercial alcohol. It's name of white lightning is very descriptive.

no its not real moonshine. my sister bought it in tennessee but she bought it from a normal liquor store. its a name brand with a label and everything. i think its called firefly

Then it's 100 proof vodka with a different name and I wouldn't worry about it a bit. Never could understand the point of calling vodka moonshine, but hey, it's marketing.

Lots of people use Everclear. It is made in 151 proof and 190 proof. The 190 proof is not available in all states. But even the 151 proof version works well.

You mean Everclear?....I have never had any more luck using alcohol versus hot water, but to each his/her own preference....oooops this posted after the Everclear was already mentioned.....But I will sure won't give up my Tanqueray just to clean a coil...nope .....no way!

Legal moonshine is white whisky, not vodka. Whenever i'm in tennessee, I always grab a jar from the store, and I get a jar through other means. Cleans the liver good.

Some white whiskeys need to be treated like scotch. Add a little water, and sip.

LOL to each his own, when i lived in Ky I drank 199 pure in coke, I think the worst thing to happen was when I was in the supply dept at our lab and realized we had 50 gal drums of the stuff in lab grade purity, they never would let me have the key for the door for some reason lol
I would gladly drink this over some of the so called name brand liquors that taste like unleaded gas.
100 proof? pfff give me a bottle with a straw in it.

Like others have said, alc is alc and should work fine

Hot water works just like vodka (or any alcohol drink). Drink the vodka and use hot water for cleaning.
