Hey there,

2 day-old, noob vaper here. Started reading up on e-cigs and was sucked right in ;)

Anyhow, I have a Vision clearomizer that had ~2ml of fluid in it today. Stuck it in my pocket and on the way to market, it leaked. Didn't think much of it at the time. It worked fine 30 mins later.

Fast-forward a full day, and the coil now refuses to heat up. Is it dead? Can i do anything to revive it? Or is it trash now?

I tried a search, but not much came up, so hoping a new thread will shed some light.

Thanks,
chris

I've never had much luck with clearomizers. My experience is many of them give a harsh vape, often leak, crack, or are just overall inconsistant. I've had some that lasted 3 weeks, some that only lasted a day. These were the smaller top-coiled clearomizers with long wicks.

I've had better luck with the bottom-coiled clearomizers like the Kanger ProTank. The bottom coils provide a cooler vape, which I prefer and provide nice vapor and flavor. In addition, the ProTank is made with pyrex glass, so that you need not worry about certain flavors like Cinnamon and citrus flavors cracking the plastic tanks like the Vision clearomizers can.

I am going to assume its a stardust/ce4 or ce? Since you said it leaked. I gave up on my stardust ce4 and use the vision vivi nova minis with no leaks and only had to replace one head on one of them the past 11 weeks. The head that I changed was probably still good just thought it tasted a bit off but the same juice doesn't taste good to me in other types of clearos aswell.

Anyways its hard to know what is wrong with the clearo you have gl

Couple of things about clearomizers. I use them a lot and they can be real workhorses and last a long time. There are hug number of videos on youtube about how to clean and maintain them, take them apart, dry burn the coil of gunk and so on. I have only had one clearomizer burn out a head in just a day or two, but I know it is possible - perhaps there was something wrong with it to start with.

You can replace the head (if it dies) but check and make sure first that the little post under the bottom that should touch the battery when they are attached doesn't need to be pulled out a bit. Sometimes, with taking it on and off or screwed too tight it gets pushed up and stops making contact and then the atomizer gets no power. A pair of tweezers or very pointy needle nose pliers are good for pulling it back down - only need to do it a mm or so to make a good connection probably.

If the coils get very glucked up - usually that takes a bit longer then two days but depends on the liquid you use and how often you vape, etc. Dry burning the coil will get rid of that but you need power to it first.

Also make sure that when you leaked the fluid did not get onto your battery connections that that is keeping it from working - cleaning it with a q-tip works well.

As for leaking. I had issues with some, usually good maintenance and cleaning avoids it, but some juices - especially acidic (like lemon) ones can damage the plastic and make it leak.

I have two dead clearomizers now :(. The first is a Vision 2.0 - it has the spring-loaded center contact. The 2nd is some no-name(?) that came in the box with my sigelei zmax. The only commonality is that the dead clearomizers were both filled with Halo Belgium Cocoa juice, but i doubt that has any real impact.

I tested both with my voltometer - both show super-high resistance (30-40 ohms) vs the 2.5ohms that i get when testing a known-good piece.

I hate the culture of waste, so if i can clean/rebuild/fix them, I'd rather do that then bin them.

Ironically, i like the harshness right now. I've given up analogs (is that the proper jargon for cigarettes?), but miss the throat burn. I have 2 other rebuildable clearomizers with a stainless tip, but the metal cools the vapor too much for me to feel the inhalation :p.

I'll look into the Kanger tank if/when my preferences shift towards a mellower inhalation; thanks for the tip.

Tucson, it's a dry heat
I have had EVODS for two months. When a coil goes bad (maybe every 2-3 weeks at this point), I replace the head ($1.50 or I'm learning to rebuilt them for cheap.) The EVODs are really sturdy, easy to clean, and nice colors! I think the metal tank helps with longevity. Never had one "die", crack or leak.

Just googled the vivi novas - those look nice. I do like that you can replace the heads. Are they fairly leak-proof/resistant even when inverted? My leak happened when driving, forgetting to put the mod upright.

I myself am new to the vape world also and got sucked in so deep....but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I have about 6 different clearo's here. My favorite is the Pro-Tank, followed by the vivi nova. My vv ego and eVic just came in today. The Protank throws a wonderful hit with the volts turned up and no leaking. I think you would enjoy either of these 2 tanks. BTW Welcome to the forum.

Tell me about it - the wife doesn't quite know how much i've already spent; I get into new kicks and just start buying stuff.

Thanks for the welcome. From your signature - how was it going from a pack-and-a-half a day to vaping? I'm roughly 2 days in now, and haven't missed the cigarettes at all :D

The first week was very hard on me. Not only smoked, but dipped also so I was use to the nicotine in my system at all times. I had 3 smokes and 2 dips in the first week, then my ego batteries came in and I have not looked back. My big order came in yesterday and I been vaping like a nut but using 12mg nic and 0 mg nic. Don't want to over do it. The morning are the hardest for me, I use 18mg to get the day started then drop down during the day. Funny part is I find it easier to vape the fruity flavors and have no desire for the taste of tobacco flavors. I smoked enough for 25 years. I am enjoying this change.

Somewhere out there
I've had bad luck with CE4 style clearos leaking, cracking or just plain gunking up quickly. On the other hand, my original 2 mini Vivi Novas are still going strong on the original heads after 3 months of on and off use. Evods seem to be lasting pretty well too, but I don't use them quite as much.

I love the newer types of clearomizers and most are easy and very cheap to rebuild. My guess is the coil burnt out like they said above some can last for days while others can last for weeks. Pbusardo has some excellent tutorial videos on rebuilding on YouTube. I prefer the clearomizers over the cartos as to me the cartos dry out and give me a funky taste. IMO
Taste is subjective though. As is preference. Keep on vaping my friend:)

Used the Stardusts when they first came out with the improved version. Was the only clearo available at the time. When the improved Vision Vivi Nova came out I switched (10+ months ago) and haven't looked back. I found the Vivi quality far superior to the Stardust. I enjoy a warm vape and still using my original tanks...for acidic juices I use the metal Vivi tank. With washing and dry burning heads lasting 10+ weeks and are still firing great but the wicks begin to degrade. Tried a friends Protank and didn't enjoy the vape. I generally use mostly Vivi Nova but occasionally flip to a carto+ tank.
If buying the Vivi Nova only buy the original genuine Vision brand.

    Clearomizer Lifespan?

    That's kinda Hard to Say.

It's like saying how Long does a Car Last? I had a Volo 121S that had over 400,000 miles on it and it never had Anything do to it Except normal Maintenance. I also had a Saturn that was Failing apart at the Seams after 50,000 Miles.

The Clearo I'm using right now is a CE2 Rev"4". It has be Dry Burned 3 Times and has been Refilled maybe 40 times (about 3 weeks of use).

And I have a Box Full of Other types of Clearos that it was hard to get thru 3 Refills.

Ms. Stormwench, thanks for the tip on pulling the contact down with pliers - i just now tried it, and got the coil to light while screwing the clearomizer down... then it died again when the threads started to get tighter. I love debugging hardware ;)

    Hi curisu,
The Kanger T2 might be worth trying, gives hot and harsh vape. Always clean before first use, goes double for the Kanger replacement heads or you may get very harsh :)
The easy way to adjust the center post on the Vision Vivi or 2.0. Unscrew and remove head. Then push down on post with something suitable ( wood dowel, I use a phillips screwdriver but be careful with the threads) with one finger on bottom of post. Don't know if this will work with yours - my Vision 2.0 don't have spring-loaded contact and this won't work with Kanger T2
Anything that holds liquid can leak.
I am still using Kanger T2, Vision Vivi Nova mini and even Joyetech Ego-C, because they work for me..Good luck to you

Completely agree with this, get the genuine and do as Vopoor eyes mentioned. Love the Vivi Nova's, never had a problem, as long as they're Genuine.... I also like my IClear 30's, but i tend to go right back to the Nova's... Good info...

Question for ya - do the heads "die slowly" - like they stop working AS WELL - or do they totally die?

I haven't had any (except disposables - like a Nano) just totally stop working yet, but I THINK I have a couple that, if I were to GUESS, were working less efficiently - in fact, I'm thinking maybe the resistance increases. For instance, I have one Vivi Nova that I've just noticed seems OK with only a totally fresh, right off the charger battery (I'm not yet VV).
