Kayte - I know how you feel. That was what our first snow was like this year. 16 inches and here we were without so much as a shovel! Our great neighbors helped us out. Since then, we have 2 shovels, a snow blower and an ATV plow on loan right now. Not sure when or if we'll ever get our own ATV. Much of our original November snow is still on the ground and it's snowed on top of it a few times but nothing as major as that storm. The neighbors say they haven't had a snow like than since 2009. Just our luck. We bought a used snow blower and it was the best investment we've made. Still no 4WD though. :( I love the snow and especially love not having to go out if I don't want to. My idea of a perfect day is to be off work, have soup on the stove and having it snow all day long as I watch it come over the mountains. It's really stunning.

Glad to hear Doug is up and getting around some. It's no fun being sick. I'm sick of work. Does that count???

Dale, doesn't matter if it's summer or winter... if weather systems move, he feels it. It actually doesn't affect him as severely now as it used to.

Glad your dad made it for Christmas! Yuck on the skin cancer business. Hope they've gotten it all and he's mending up. Doug's dad had to have a bunch removed a couple of years ago. Speaking of which, he was with us for Christmas and was doing so much better than I've seen him in a long time. Seems they finally got him on the right meds. Such a relief!

Yeah, the state may have told them to stop (our driveway is on a state highway.) But they were just such a nice group of men. These days, you really don't want to be out there when they come by. You'll get beaten with snow and ice as they go by. The old crew would lift their blades if they saw you.
We have a county road behind us and the guy plowing it now does such a lousy job. The one before him was an artist. lol

I can think of a few jobs that I wouldn't be so nice about chooch.

I'm with you... I admire people like Doug, too. He says sitting or laying around just makes him feel worse, so he keeps going. We used to have a neighbor that was in her 80's. She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when she was in her early 20's. You'd never know it. She said her secret was that any time she was hurting bad, she'd grab a brush, get down on her hands and knees and scrub the kitchen floor. I sure miss her and her attitude. :)
Doug kisses my owies, too. Really. Nothing helps a migraine like kisses across my eyes and temples. Fortunately I don't really get those anymore (the migraines... I still get the kisses. :D )

That totally counts!

I'm glad you guys are getting set up with everything you need. Your driveway sounds like a pain in the tush. I love the snow, too, under the same conditions. Just not wild about shoveling it anymore. The driveway seems to grow to the size of a football field when it snows now. That's too much to shovel by hand. ;) I'm getting serious about needing a snow blower these days. And asphalt. (Our driveway is gravel... not great for snow plows and Doug gets fussy if I fling a piece of gravel off with the snow. haha)

The jeep you looked at wasn't for you?

Ms.C, you've only been there less than half a yr.? and are doing super duper handling the weather.....for "southern people." Ha! Sounds like you've got the perfect neighbors too. Was that on your list of "must haves" when looking for a house? :)

Kayte, good to hear about your FIL. It seems it takes forever to get medications right especially if you have to take more than one! Also, my FIL had the same cancer on the scalp thing going on too and every yr. had to have them taken off. This guy wore a hat everywhere in TN including the beach since he was in his 20's! My dad went bald and hatless in the FLA sun and never had a problem.....Can't figure that one out.

Also, saw in another thread started by Mosspa that there seems to be a benefit to smoking or taking nicotine in some form....and that is it helps limiting migraines. I used to get them as a young teen....Would lay me up for the day fighting nausea and lights. Started smoking at 16 and haven't had one since although I can think of some instances where I should have had whoppers instead of just feeling drug out. :)

Kayte! So glad to hear that Doug is feeling better! Back pain is sometimes really hard to live with. You are lucky to have someone who is able to work through it. I want to be one of those people.
And ChooChoo, lucky is the lady who has a sweet hubby who will kiss your boo boos!
I hope those of you with snow get a chance to stay in and stay warm! I hadn't heard about the couple near Clovis who where stranded in their car. That is awful. I do remember one year when my brother and I were stranded in our car in the snow outside of Flagstaff! It took us hours to dig the car out of that snow! I never leave home in the winter without warm blankets and extras just in case.
So everyone, stay dry and warm! And most of all, stay safe!

Thanks, Chili. :) Ha! Hubby just tonight in response to a "zinger" I sent his way threaten to take my new Radius away. I asked him if he really thought that threat would straighten me up and fly right, and he said no.....but miracles do happen. It was worth a try. Ha! He thinks I'm sick if I'm not up to something! :)

You're in TX and am hoping you are batten down and safe too.

Good morning mountaineers [emoji4] Hope everyone is well and has a nice New Years eve [emoji4]

Not much going on here today. My brother is coming over. I am trying to get him off the stinkies again...I put together a woodvil with atty and everything he needs to get a good start. Fingers crossed he sticks with it this time.

Holly cow, Momma! If I come over, would you try to get me to switch to a Woodvil? Ha! :) Good luck with your brother. I had no success with my neighbor. He keeps saying he quit on Chantix, and I keep saying to him that he's back to smoking. Think that he just doesn't want to put the effort into it......Actually, does the same thing with most endeavors.

Good morning on this last day of 2015. May all our dreams come true for the Mountaineers in 2016. Happy New Year, everyone! :)

Happy New Years Eve!! I see everyone is gearing up for a big party. Haha... Not us, heck I'm not sure I've been up until midnight for years. But I'm going to try.

We're going for Italian food in Old Colorado City with the adult-type children and then going to their house for a little champagne and hoping to catch some fireworks. There are these 39 people in a prestigious climbing club that left yesterday to climb to the summit of Pikes Peak. After a 2 day climb in sub zero temps (it's probably about 30 below up there) with some deeeeep snow), they set off 4 fireworks at 9pm in honor of their 4 founding members from back in the 1920's. At midnight, they have a big fireworks show from the summit. Without much cloud cover, we can see them on this side of the mountain and they can see them all the way to Co.Springs. Or I may get tired and go to bed, you just never know! I think if they climbed the mountain I should be able to stay awake but no guarantees. :)

Hey, Ms.C. :) Happy New Years! Yep, I take care of my greetings early 'cause fight it as hard as I can can't make it to midnight for more than 15 yrs. Seems I need a party to go to to keep me up, but the the loud music and trying to talk over it is exhausting and I'm only good for a couple of dances IF it's an "oldie but goodie". Shag anyone? Ha!
