So, I am relatively new to rebuildables but for a while was having no problem but now I have no clue what is going on. I am building with 30g kanthal on a Tobh 26650 Atty clone. I am doing a micro coil with 7 wraps on a 3/32 drill bit. It is reading 1.9 ohms, but once I get over 20 watts it starts to short. When I keep it under 20 it works fine, but anything over is bad news. I am using a Seven 30 mod, but have also tested it on my Seven 22 and my Vamo V2 all to similar results. Is it the gauge of wire I'm using? I am having a hard time getting the coils super tight even after heating them up, I feel like going to 28 or 26g would be easier.

Have you tried torching your coil to get all the wraps touching? Before you install it onto your atty, pinch the coils with tweezers or needle nose pliers and take a torch to it until it glows... Blow it cool real quick, then let go. Repeat this process until all coils are touching. Once you've got a good looking coil, put it onto your atty. Before putting the wick in, fire it up until it glows red... Then pinch it with tweezers again (Letting off on the fire button as you pinch of course). Repeat this process until all coils are touching and the microcoil is glowing nicely from the inside out.

Also, make sure when you mount the coil on the atty it's not touching the posts, deck, or cap. All of these could cause a short.

And as ImThatGuy said... Pictures would really help diagnosing the specific problem.
