Coils keep burning out on Aspire Zelos

Hi everyone, I’m new here but not new to vaping, been vaping now for about 4 years or so but I’m definitely not an expert. I previously had the Kangertech Subox Nano which I got on really well with but as it was old and passed its best I decided last week to get a new ecig. I got an Aspire Zelos which I was told was very similar and got that all set up in the shop with the 0.7 coils (was using 0.5 in my subox nano) and liquid (I use 3mg and got a local made 30/70 one which I have used before. I started at 13 watt and gradually increased the wattage to 20 watt and the coil instantly burnt out. I thought maybe I had just upped it too fast or something so I replaced the coil and again started on 13 watt but just upped to 17 watt and left it there which was fine for 3 days then today again it burnt out! I have no idea what i’m doing wrong and never had this problem with my kangertech ecig! Anyone got any ideas?

Did you buy the zelos kit that includes the nautilus 2 delivery device/tank and uses the bvc heads?
If so 30pg/70vg is too thick to wick quickly in the bvc heads. Especially at higher wattages & frequent vaping.
50/50 & 40/60 will wick better/faster.
If it burns at 17 -20w is there a reason you keep turning up the power?

Thanks, I have changed the coil and I have put in a 50/50 liquid so I will see if that makes a difference. I wanted it at 20 watt, I didn’t keep putting it up after that if that makes sense! I just find it doesn’t give me a good enough hit at lower than that really

Welcome to ECF:D
I used the bvc 0.7 coils with no hassle at all, and I've always been using 30pg/70vg. So that can't be the problem. I cannot give you a reason, sorry. Some lovely folks will no doubt:)
Thank you! I’m trying a 50/50 liquid now anyway just to see but I never had an issue with my previous similar device! Hopefully I will find some useful ideas anyway :)

Could also be sweeteners in your liquids causing early failure.
Or need to use airflow wide open and move more air through it to help cool the coil to prevent burning.
Are you using confirmed authentic aspire heads?
Verified via entering scratch off security code on aspire's site?

Have you tried your tank from your subox on the zelos?

I wasn't a fan of the nautilus 2, might have to experiment with a few different delivery devices to find something that suits your preferences.

Thanks for your advice! Yeah I’m trying a less sweet liquid now so hopefully that will help. I have been using the airflow on full to allow a lot of air in. Yeah they are definitely verified Aspire ones. I haven’t thought of that but I do prefer the subox tank so I will give that a try! Thanks again.

Welcome to the friendly bunch :)

Glad to see you're trying out the suggestions. Your coils certainly shouldn't burn out at 20 watts. It may just be that you have a dodgy blister pack of replacements.

I don't think its the viscosity of your liquid either. More airflow gives more cooling also so that's good....make sure you prime your coil before inserting.

Hope you get it sorted :)

It just may not be the tank for you. Some vape you just can't get an optimal amount of vapor *for you^ regardless of the juice, or the device. I don't think I've ever vaped even the 0.7 coil at 20 watts, honestly (although I used close to 90 VG, l an PG sensitive) without a problem.

Is this the N2 original, or the N2S? I'm just curious. I'm in the middle of reviewing the N2S and I just have to try the mesh 0.7 coil. I'm surprised how much I'm liking it, it's like, it fixed all the N2 issues and it's really a very nice vape.

I'm not suggesting you get it of course, sounds to me like your issues are wattage related and may not be solved in that tank, so using a different tank sounds totally reasonable to me! I was just curious.

Thank you, you all seem like a friendly bunch! Yeah i’m thinking it must be the coils too - new one seems ok so far but from the same pack so not holding out much hope! Going to buy another pack from a more reputable shop tomorrow!

It’s just the N2 original I’m using. Other than the burn out problem I’m not finding the tank as easy to fill as my subox nano was but I am going to put that tank on this one when I get home (I’m away for the week and don’t have the subox with me). Glad you’re enjoyinh the N2S though! And thanks for the advice

OKAY so I just found out there is a new Nautilus coil it is 0.4 resistance, mesh, possibly you could vape that at a higher wattage but IDK because mine will be arriving after the N2S which I have to say, is superior to the N2 in every way, including airflow options, in my opinion.

IDK if your original N2 would have the airflow to support its higher wattage capacity. It might. I know nothing about this coil other than Aspire probably should have rolled it out with great fanfare with the N2S launch but what do I know, I'm just a lowly reviewer.

I plan to push the wattages when it gets here and see what makes it burn.
