I watched many a YouTube video on building a microcoil. Well today at the vape shop I bought some unknown brand rba in the clearance bin. They said it was as easy to build as the Russian 91 I was currently vaping. Having no other rba atm and for $5.99 I took it home.

I took it apart. The deck looked similar to the Russian and having installed a coil on it before but not building it I was thinking piece of cake. I got out some wire I was told was 32 ga kanthal. I built what looked to be pretty decent coil for the first time and I installed it. Not hard. But it turned out to be .70 ohms. I don't care for subohms so I took it off and for our a new roll of labelled 32 gauge kanthal. I tried again. This time my coil sucked. So I tried 2 more times before I got one that looked decent. Then I realized you have to wind it around the posts counterclockwise. Messed that one up. New coil.
Finally I have a coil that came out at 2.4 ohms. I was aiming for 1.2. I wicked it. I'm leaving it for now. I want to try the mother's milk I bought damn it.

Long story short why did I come out 2.4 ohms? It was only 7 wraps.

Single coil 32 awg at 1.2 ohms is way too hot.......... 2.4 would be better..
What is your core diameter.....

My fave kayfun kanthal builds are 2x32 twisted at 1 ohm to 1.3ohm. 5 to 7 wraps spaced on 2mm to 2.75mm.

Coil building does take practice..... wicking more.. pretty looking coils don't really vape better than ugly ones. Their just more photogenic.

I'll second that, patience is key. I've built almost 100 coils and only a handful turned out to my liking. But I'll also picky[emoji4]

Figure they are easier to wick.
Meh.... to me difficulty same contact vs spaced.

I guess if your hand wrapping coil and perfection is important... squeezing fixes errors.

Fwiw I use a coil making machine... homemade version of The Artistic Wire "coil gizmo" and my Kayfun coil wrapping rods started life as a 2.5mm clothes hanger and a 2mm bike spoke. 1/16" works just fine.. but the larger the ID the easier to wick.

First, kanthal has a high resistivity compared to other wires and heats up slower, if that is what you are aiming for but want a lower resistance I'd switch to a lower Guage, start with 28.

Second, make sure your coil's inner diameter is the right size, for a kayfun/Russian, that's around 2.5mm

Third, get yourself one of these.

Mine was 10-15 bucks on Amazon.

Build on Steam Engine coil builder. A 32 g Kanthal, 2.mm coil, 6.35 wraps is 2.4 ohms. Want lower Ohms coil you need a lower wire. Like 28 Gauge Kanthal. CHEERS!
Or 2 strands of the 32 either parallel or twisted together....... the multi wire coil will give better flavor than the 28.. more surface area while being very close electrically.

Resistance is determined by the length of wire the coil is made from.

Thinner wire has higher resistance than thicker wire.

With my Juice and flavors i find a .8-1 ohm coil lovely.

Someone will be along with a website that WILL help you build coiks to the resistance you want.
