Hi all,

I'm Chris...Thought I would chime in finally as I've been lurking for a few weeks.
I heard about "e-cigs" one morning on the radio and thought this must be some telemarketing crap or else I would have heard about it before. I usually ignore these kind of things, but the thought of an electronic cigarette kept popping back into my head... about a month ago I starting looking into them and discovered they have been around for a few years... Why hadn't I heard of them before October of this year?

I was overwelmed by the different types and couldn't figure out what to order. I knew nothing about buying parts, so I ended up finding a site reviewing "brands". I read a few reviews and ordered a Safe Cig kit. Two days later I was at 7-11 and saw Njoy kits ($19.99) next to the regular cigarettes. Out of excitment, I snatched one up and a 5 pack (another $19.99) of menthol Cartomizers... I was not a menthol smoker, but did read that tabacco flavor was nasty. Anyway, I LOVED it! Within 3 days I considered myself an ex smoker for the first time in 20 years! Since I am only 33, smoking has been a huge part of my life. I've never really tried to quit because I enjoyed it toooo much and didn't intend on quitting when I started vaping either, I was just curious and wanted a way to smoke in my office and in my house. after 3 weeks, analogs smell nasty to me. I can't believe I used to smell like that.

Anyway, I prefer the small cig style PVs because they are compact and I don't care much about vapor production, just taste(especially) and throat hit... I don't mind charging batteries (I have 8 & a pass through).

My only MOD to date was cosmetic. I don't my PVs to look like analogs, so I started sanding all the white paint off the batteries (510autos & 4081 autos) so they are silver looking. I also removed the .... colored stickers from my cartomizers.

I am very interested in DIY flavors and have started doing little experiments. Can't wait to learn more from this group!

Congratulations on your new hobby and welcome to ECF. Is a great place, lots of information and a whole lot of good people waiting to help anyone out that needs it. It has been a god send for me. I started DIY my own juice and is a great experience, I have come up with a few really tasty recipes. I sat down today with my list of flavors that I have in my tackle box and came up with 10 new recipes and made them up. Now letting them sit for few days and will give them a try and see what comes out good. I make 3ml bottles up for test batches, then when I find something I like I make a bigger bottle of it. Is great fun.

Welcome! I lurked for a long time before I actually registered and posted as well. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I had quit smoking for 5 days on the patch but was terribly allergic. I had researched ecigs and tried them a long time ago with awful results. This time I knew I'd smoke if I didn't do something so I found some at a tobacco store that held me over until I could order and receive my first 510. I haven't had a cig since 9/11...and more than that, I haven't wanted one!

Welcome intog to the ECF. You in for a wonderful experience. You will learn a lot by reading the posts here. DIY is great and can save you a lot of money.

I've already ordered a couple flavors and accessories from the Perfumer's Apprentice and I have 120mls of 36mg nic coming from Gourmet Vapor, so I'm going to jump right in.

Mostly I have been modifying flavors I have purchased by mixing ones I don't like. So far I have found that if I mix 2 that I hate and let them sit, that they taste pretty good. I was so dissapointed with a wintergreen flavor I bought... Wintergreen has always been my favorite taste. When I was a kid, my mom had to hide the Pepto Bismol because I would just drink it. The wintergreen I tried tasted like wintergreenfish. ugg, I think wintergreen is ruined forever for me. I'm using it now to sweeten up a harsh peppermint that I have.

I lurked for 3 weeks because I had no reason to post. I kept finding answers to every question I had. I have a few questions now, so I figured I would start posting. Yeah, my first day I smoked 2 cigs (I was a pack a day smoker), the second day I just took a couple drags off my girlfriend's cig every time she smoked and on the 3rd day I TRIED to smoke a cigarette and couldn't... it made me sick. I've been smoke free ever since and my girlfriend is now vaping too. At first it wasn't working for her, but she slowly stopped smoking.

Very intuitive intog, sounds like you're on the right track with your mixing technics. Hey Christmas is coming. Looking forward to a good Eggnog vape.
If you come up with some tasty recipes post them so we can all enjoy them.

That does sound fun. By the end of next week I will have total of 415ml of various flavors to mess around with. I ordered a dozen 4ml glass bottles with droppers to make and store test flavors with. I could imagine that I may create a lot of terrible ones at first, so I'll only waste 4mls at a time.... or slowly mix them into sucessful flavors. The one thing I don't understand yet is the proportions. I have the excel calculator, but it doesn't give guidance on the ratios of PG/VG/flavor etc. I understand everyone has their own tastes, but I need a starting point that I can modify. Also if I want to thin out VG, what percentage of alcohol do I add to it? I guess I'll figure these things out!

Welcome. Where in MD are you? I grew up outside Bel Air. Now in Kansas and boy what a time warp....LOL. Great to hear that you decided to switch. Keep us posted and say hello to the ocean for me please.

LOL, I live in Bel Air! I just moved here 2 years ago from Michigan. I've been so busy with work that I haven't seen the ocean yet :(

I vape vg only & have been diy'ing & have been using vodka or vanilla rum* to thin out the vg

.... mistress nomad has an fairly easy formula
for your base that you just add flavoring to as you use it ....

2010 October « Vapor Muse

* & yes I know that this is not very pure stuff to vape
but @ 5% it will NOT be THAT big a deal , IMHO... probably wrong ...but IS YUMMY.
