Commercial Brand Comparison Thread Needed

Greetings,

Joined : June 29, 2013

Here’s my “Straight to the Point” view :
I can eat bananas, cherries, strawberries or drink coffee, pina-colada, root beer, cola... ANYWHERE.
BUT
I can’t smoke my (commercial brand) cigarette anywhere.

I’m NEW to vaping, in fact… my kit is coming in the mail soon.
My wish to all you DIY eliquid makers or developers…. :
Please replicate as many “commercial” brands as possible.
This endeavor could shut down all tobacco companies…. Isn’t that the goal to vaping ?
Change the world….one pack at a time.

I’m so confused when it comes to reviews on eliquids. Are there eliquid reviews here that are done
by veteran smokers rather than veteran vapers ? ?
Based on researching eliquids, its seems difficult to replicate analog cigarettes but who’s the closest ?
Why do those eliquids claiming to be close to analog cigarettes have a sweet flavor ?
Why are people (supposedly smokers or ex-smokers) comparing Mint to Menthol or Tobacco to Licorice ? ?
Confused…. I’m confused…..

I really…really…really want to see reviews from vapers (veteran or not) who have been smoking in excess of twenty years….. I would have a tendency to believe their reviews.
Please don’t hate me for posting this but when it comes to finding eliquids to try ….I’m at a total loss.
I wish there was a B&H Thread or Kool Thread or Camel Thread or Newport Thread or Djarium Thread….
Smokers…..when you do a review,…compare it to the analog cigarettes you used to smoke, that’s all.
You smokers who have smoked for many many years can help people like me out.
If you make a review on tobacco or menthol or clove flavors….tell us what ‘commercial’ brand you are comparing it to (preferably a commercial brand you used to smoke regularly) …. Please ?

It seems like more and more reviews are trying to get you to vape and not trying to get you to quit smoking (if that makes any sense). Then there are reviews that tell you vaping is MUCH cheaper than cigarettes yet the advice is to try as many eliquids as possible….how much is THAT gonna cost ?

Confused…… aye ya yieee….

In either case…. I care about my health. I’m gonna give it vaping a shot.

You should give vaping a go....and you WILL succeed.

Sadly, I have yet to find a truly similar tobacco liquid and just make do with liquids that have a tobacco-ey taste.

I smoked a lot of brands over the years and for the last 15 years, hand-rolled. There are plenty of tobacco type liquids that keep me off the smokes and that's good enough for me. :)

usually and i say usually, people only look for something that tastes like their cig brand when they are first getting off them, after that they move onto things they actually enjoy, hence the sweet tobaccos and the mints and the licorice many even move on to smoking fruity flavors as they loose their acquired taste for tobacco as i did. reviews are tuff because everything tastes different to each and every individual person. vape for a week or two and then try to have a real cig again i promise you will be repulsed by the real cig. i had one of my once beloved newports after about a week of just vaping and couldnt finish it.

its always a rough start in the beginning the tobacco companies soul intention was to make this difficult for you but once you find what works for you its bye bye ciggs its pretty amazing how successful vaping is compared to other quitting methods.

+ you will develop a love for your new found hobby :)

Hello again,...

I'm "assuming" that no eliquid even gets close to any commercial brand.
**sigh**

Vaping, it appears, is NOT a smoking alternative....but rather an eating (??) or drinking (??) alternative.
(which is definitely a weird concept to me)

....and I just spent $80 on a kit.... **sigh**

Well....I guess I learned the hard way. I'm one of those who believe that if I'm gonna die.... I'd like to die happy.
I'm still going to give vaping the best shot I can give....

If anyone is curious... I roll my own and have been for 3 years now (pipe tobacco). Prior to rolling my own, I smoked :
Kools , B&H , Marlboro , Newports , Virginia Slims , Pall Malls , Djarium (cloves) ....all in Menthol (NOT Mint)
I've smoked other 'generic' brands but the ones I mentioned are what flavors I gravitate to.

All reviews and feedback are appreciated..... Thanks

im glad your not going to give up on it at least. their are vendors that try to reproduce the mainstream cig brands. but they obviously cant use the brand names so you kinda have to read between the lines. like iv seen Nuport... Newports obviously. Desert Ship with a picture of a camel.. Cowboy.. stuff like that. i have never tried any of them so i cant tell you how close they are to matching the actual cig but from what i understand nothing will ever be exact. there's a few tobacco flavors that get raved about all over the forums the 2 that come to mind is "Bobas Bounty" and "RY4" there are many people here that swear by them.

best of luck to you.

One of the hardest, scariest things to learn about vaping is: the taste of burning tobacco and paper is nearly impossible to replicate.

There are plenty of tobacco juices out there, and if you enjoy a good cigar or pipe tobacco, you'll have lots to choose from. But no one can capture the taste of a Marlboro, Camel, Kool, etc. There are some that try, and some can come real close to a cigarette taste, but more of a generic cigarette.

Every site, every vendor has at least 1 tobacco juice. They range from just chemical flavorings, to tobacco-like flavorings, to naturally Extracted Tobacco flavors, to Tobacco Absolute flavors, and somethings in between.

Many will have names like Kamel, Reds, Menthol Ice, Ice Mist, Cool Artic Breeze, Cowboy, Desert Blend, 555, RY4.

There are fruity tobaccos, coffee tobaccos, dessert tobaccos, and many real, authentic pipe and cigar tobaccos from Burley to Cavendish, to Virginia to Turkish to flue-cured Perique. Lots of stuff. Lots of fantastic flavors, some more authentic than others.

You might not find a Marlboro, but you will find some fantastic tobaccos.

Just don't give up. Don't stop on quitting smoking. I smoked for nearly 30 years, 2 packs a day. I started vaping FIN's from Wal-mart, a week later got myself an ego battery and I have quit smoking effortlessly because of vaping, and because of the ECF community was able to help me find tobacco flavors I love.

I was on a mission to find the juice that tasted the most like a Newport for a while. After 3 days ordering juice and another 5 of vaping all the menthols I figured out that there isn't one.

I also figured out that I didn't actually like the taste of Newports. I tried one after all this and it was disgusting. That's why we vape bakery and fruit flavors, not because we're substituting vaping for eating or drinking, but because, to a lot of us, tobacco doesn't taste very good.

It's called a smoking "alternative" because it replicates the hand to mouth action...and you get to blow "smoke" (vapor), which is a huge part of the addiction that a lot of us don't even recognize until we try (and fail) quitting using old fashioned methods like the patch or gum. If it was just the nicotine those methods wouldn't fail at such high rates.

Once you start vaping you'll understand better. And I'd bet you actually start to like vaping things you couldn't imagine yourself ever smoking. (Thug Juice and Peach Rings are just a couple of mine)

Greetings....

Another 'observation' I've made in reading these forums (specifically eliquid reviews) is that it's focused on sales and promotions.

This is just an analogy BUT :
It's like I'm asking someone to teach me how to drive a vehicle and they put me on a tricycle.

I know you're helping out your friends or 'social networking' (as it's called) with eliquid sales....but please keep your reviews honest otherwise it's just going to give vaping a bad reputation (don't you think ??)

Vaping, it appears,... really is life changing. Help us New or Potential Vapers take baby steps.... (especially us 'broke' ones) :)

DIY eliquid makers.... I have faith in you....

Yes,.... taste IS subjective but EVERYONE knows what a cherry tastes like. There seems to be no argument in the "sweets" department.
That's why I'm requesting that it be compared (subjectively compared, ok) to commercial brands. Everyone seems to agree on flavors such as cherry, chocolate, peanut butter, root beer, mouthwash, etc.... but when it comes to analog.... everything goes awry (somehow)
All Kool smokers KNOW a Kool cigarette.... All Newport smokers KNOW a Newport cigarette..... that's why we smoke it.

Am I making any sense here ? ?

I understand fully where you are coming from. When I first started vaping all I wanted was a menthol that compared to Newport or Kool and that curbed my nic fits. There are some awesome flavors out there, but what I recommend are disposables from White Cloud. They are cheap, last a long time and are awesome IMHO. They have plain ol' tobacco and menthol flavors, as well as some fruits and blends. You can get 10 for less than $30. Here is a link: Electronic Cigarettes | Electronic Cigarette | White Cloud

Maybe this will help: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...p-newbs-seeking-tobacco-cigarette-flavor.html

In short, since there is no combustion involved in vaping - replicating the flavor of a burning cigarette is not possible. There are vendors who sell juice made with naturally extracted tobacco...tastes like tobacco but not burning tobacco.

I was a menthol smoker for 23 years. I started vaping Portal Blend by Dekang which is "supposed" to be like a Newport but not really lol. It was enough to keep me vaping and I smoked a cigarette on my way to work, after lunch and on my way home....the times I felt I "needed" one most while I vaped in between those times. Throughout that first week I found that my urge for a cigarette started to subside and was smoking less cigarettes after 3 days. Day 4 & 5 I smoked 1 cigarette a day. Day 6 I was halfway through one and wondered why I like it. Day 7 I tried 1 last cigarette and it was just plain nasty I threw it out after 2 puffs. Haven't looked back since.

Don't be discouraged and just ease into it without feeling the pressure of quitting the cigarettes. Some people make the switch faster than others and that's okay. Some still have a cigarette every now and again and that is okay too. It will come naturally and your body will let you know when it's ready to do away with the stinkies.

Vaping is a nicotine delivery alternative. It shares many things associated with cigarette smoking including a similar nicotine delivery method, a similar hand-to-mouth action, and provides a similar satisfying sensation of smoke (only as warm vapor) in the throat and lungs.

But it is not smoking. It is not smoke from burning or combustion of dried plant material. It is nicotine-containing liquid that is vaporized into gas form. The nicotine in vapor is absorbed in the mouth, nose, and throat - not the lungs.

You'll have more chance of success if you understand these things from the beginning. This is a lifestyle change you are undertaking. It will be different from what you were used to - and that is not a bad thing. I and many others actually prefer vaping way more than I ever did smoking - and I LOVED smoking and really didn't want to quit. I know that's hard for you to understand that perspective now, but it will happen if you give vaping a chance.

I certainly understand what you're asking for here.

The unfortunate part of your request is that there isn't a vendor out there that can replicate a Newport/ Kool/ Marlboro, etc. What I've found (and this is through limited sampling) is that the tobacco flavors will mimic the scent (or tasted) of an unlit cigarette.

I thought I'd want a tobacco flavor when I switched over. Used it for a week and moved on. My thinking was that since I"m smoking, I want something close to the taste to help me quit. In hindsight, didn't need it.

I can't give any advice as to who out there makes e-liquid that tastes just like a lit cigarette. After 2 or 3 weeks of vaping, I went and lit a cig. The second the smoke hit my tongue I felt like I had just licked a used ash tray. Put the cig down and haven't been back.

As for the promoting of eliquid vendors, everybody has found somebody that they like. "Hey, it worked for me, you should try 'em out". It's just the reverse of people voicing their difficulty/ troubles with a company. This community is very supportive. So if they had a good experience, they're going to promote them as a form of support.

You can ask anybody who makes the best *insert flavor* and you'll get a vote from almost every vendor because that's who they like.

I wish you luck on your journey. I hope you are successful as I have been. Try not to get too hung up on reviews. It may give you an inkling but in the end, it rests on you whether you like it or not.

Good luck.

I'm so glad all of you are supportive.
Your positive 'energy' or 'thoughts' will help me IMMENSELY ! ! !

Your feedback is most definitely appreciated . . . . and actually comforting as well.
I feel more at ease, believe it or not . . . that I'm not wasting my time with vaping.

Comments from long-time smokers REALLY DO HELP.

Thank You ALL ! ! :)

Hello,

Jfaria1891 mentioned that businesses can't use commercial brand names in their eliquid (description) advertisements.

Does this 'rule' apply to consumers ? ?
Will I get in trouble if I say that this eliquid or that eliquid tastes like Marlboro or Kool brand cigarettes ? ?

No you won't.

This is also why vendors can't say that vaping is a smoking cessation device. Rules, laws, and regulations.

We as consumers can say things, write things, but vendors cannot.

Somewhere in the US in my RV
Twentyyearsplus, I'm a nearly 40 year smoker who switched to vaping about six months ago. And as much as I'd love to tell you which e-juice flavor would closest replicate your beloved smoke brand, I can't. It's just not that simple.

Like every other vapor here, all I can do is tell you to try it. Just try it. The first few flavors you try may not give you what you want. Try a few more. You can get a dozen or more flavor samples for the cost of a single carton. Pick a bunch of "tobacco" flavors, with menthol, since that's your thing. But also toss in a couple others -- a cocktail you enjoy, a candy, cake or fruit flavor that sounds tasty. You might be very, very surprised.

Vaping immediately gave me about 90% of what I enjoyed about smoking -- the relaxation of inhaling and exhaling, the plumes, the nicotine hit, the hand-to-mouth action, all are totally satisfying. The taste ... that's different. RY4, USA Smoke, Desert Ship -- they weren't "right" and I found that disappointing. Not enough that I wanted to smoke again, but still, disappointing.

Then I tried a free sample flavor that was tossed in to one of my orders, just because it was there. Cinnamon Roll. Crazy, right? Why smoke a cinnamon roll when you can just eat one? The point of smoking is to taste tobacco, right? Except ... and I'm dead serious now ... this was good. Better than any tobacco I ever tried. If a cigarette had ever tasted THIS good, they'd be prying them from my cold, dead hands. I'd never have quit smoking.

As my taste buds and sense of smell shook off the effects of smoking for all those years, I realized that the taste of tobacco had never really been the attraction of smoking for me. It was everything else. Now as a vapor, I get "everything else" AND a better taste, too. If you had told me when I first started vaping that I'd eventually find the smell and taste of my favorite cigarette brand just this side of disgusting, I'd have called you a damn fool. Almost 40 YEARS I smoked! I knew what I liked!

But I like this better. Really. Just try it.
