34 days smoke free. 35 year smoker.
Like a lot of others, I started with the 510 but I'm with everyone else in that I got my Mega eGo on Friday and what a difference. It's so great. No comparison. I also agree to get the passthrough with the car charger. I went with a high nic as I definately did not want to fail. I haven't even had the slightest interest in smoking. Awesome.

I think I misunderstood your last question

(5) with the Joye eGo - how many cigs can you smoke in one go. For example, could one say that if fully charged you could smoke the equivalent of 20 cigs before you had to change the filter ...
I think perhaps you meant, how long will a battery last? Fully charged a riva will last me (heavy vaper) about 5-6 hours before I have to change batteries. An ego battery usually last me 4-5 hours. In terms of regular cigarettes, I'd say a battery last me about the equivalent of half a pack, give or take depending on eGo/Riva.

Also, as Jupiter pointed out, there are different size batteries that are larger but have the ability to take you through the day without switching batteries. The ego is 650mah, the riva 750mah; but there are also 900mah and 1300mah batteries out there.

I have the VGo on my wish list, if I ever have the extra cash I plan to order that one with the 1300mah battery.

'Standard cartomizers' - does that mean cartridge ?

What I would really like is, to smoke the equ of 8 cigs without having to do anything (other than the starting procedure). However, the more I read, am I right in thinking that, I would have to keep putting juice into the cartridge + other places, every 10 puffs or so (on a device like the riva or Ego) or is that wrong. Can I go 2 hours of constant (ish) smoking with little effort.

Sorry for not clarifying. Cartridges go in the atomizer of the PV (personal vaporizer) and having filling inside and you fill them with juice, for me they only last about one cig before you have to add juice to the top of the cart (topping off the cart). Cartomizers are a combination atty, cart filler in one unit. You fill these with juice and they will last at least 4-5 hours before the need to be refilled. They are considered disposable, but I find that I can use one at least a week before it dies. This is a very hassle-free method of vaping, probably the easiest way to vape is "dripping" with a drip tip, which is put on the end of an atomizer. You drip directly into the drip tip with your juice, however, it is not good for vaping while performing other activities. There are also self-feeding box mods that will last a day, perhaps this would be the best method for you. I don't know to much about mods, but I'm sure if you are interested in mods starting off, you'll have plenty of people that can answer your questions. Usually mods are much more expensive, but you've said that the price really doesn't matter to you. I think most of us recommended an ego type battery because it is a good kit to start off with to see if vaping is for you.

For a decent throat hit you need at least 18mg/ml (PG based) juice, and a good e-cig (510, eGo, etc), 0mg doesn't work at all. And don't worry, it's safe.. unless you have a verry high blood pressure, that's the only thing you need to consider.
You need to drink much water too.
And be prepared for some slight side effects in the first two weeks... but's not a big deal really - a bit of vertigo, headache..
The e-cig needs some maintenance - washing the fuzz from time to time, cleaning the atomizer (and often buying new ones)... and that sort of things. So you need at least 2 batteries and 2 atomizers.

That's it i think ...

Actually, cartomizers aren't that much more expensive than using atomizers because you have to replace atomizers as well and they are still cheaper than analogs. Cartomizers screw onto the battery just like an atomizer and you have to get the same kind of cartomizer threads to match your battery. For example, if you order a eGo/riva 510 you get 510 cartos as well, if you get a 901 riva, you need to get 901 cartos. 510s are more widely used but the 901 is said to give a better throat hit.

A novelty of vaping is that you choose how to vape. You may decide you like cartos when you are out and about for convenience, but like to drip or use cartridges while at home.

Additionally, there are adapters so that if you have a 510, but get a good deal on 901 attys you can just buy a cheap adapter to use the 901's on the 510, but I wouldn't worry about that at this point. And I really don't want to confuse you; but I want to answer your questions the best that I can.

Cartomizers can be refilled and even cleaned/reused somewhat but typically have a shorter lifespan than atomizers. Cartomizers are less expensive than atomizers. Atomizers don't last forever either. People say it's good to have 3 atomizers - 1 spare and 1 spare spare! I don't own a 510 or 901 but for my model cartos cost about 1/5 what an atomizer costs? if you get a popular model PV then you will likely have both options and can try both.

I have been vaping for about a month. I started with a standard 510 kit. it didnt take me long to realize that I wasnt getting a very pleasurable throat hit from the 510 kit I bought, and the constant changing of batteries was JUST about to send me back to smoking! Instead, I bought an Omega with 2 rechargeable batteries. In doing so, I now go a complete day of FULL vaping without having to swap batteries, and the power with a LR atty REALLY pumps up the vapor/throat hit!

Sorry kc, I had to go out for a bit, I started an order of what I think you should need at Liberty Flights in the uk, just order some juices to go with it and you should be all set. The Riva is like an eGo, so it is what we have been talking about. I listed a Riva kit with 2 batteries and 2 packages of cartomizers. Electric Cigarette Sales - Sign In

I used the nicotine patch to get off cigarettes so I was clean from the nicotine and I didn't want to get back on the nicotine. I tried the vaping with zero nicotine but it just didn't work for me. I just wasn't satisfied and was very close to going back to smoking (analogs). The throat hit from 18mg nicotine, which is what I vape, is like night and day compared to the 0mg. My theory is it's better to do the vaping thing with nicotine then go back to the unhealthy habit of smoking. I am very satisfied with vaping and I feel a lot better. I started with the Titan 510 and now mostly use the Tornado (eGo from Totally Wicked).
