I have been reading the forum for a little over a month I guess, and I am still not clear on the batteries that come standard on a 510. I got just your standard joye 510 starter kit and was wondering what stregnth (Sorry don't know tech terms) are the batteries compared to some of the mods. I have seen a lot of mods at 3.7 and 6, but everyone keeps saying 5v seems to be the sweet spot. I am thinking of ordering the chuck after all the great things I have read about it, but it is my understanding that it is a 3.7 or 6 v mod, can it be tweaked down to a 5v for that sweet spot? I guess I should have paid a little more attention in physics class in high school when they covered this stuff :) anyways thanks for any input

The amount of charge the battery can hold is measured in maH, or milliamps per hour. A regular 510 battery has 120maH, whereas the mega batteries are 280maH. My Bartleby batteries, 14500's, are 900maH for comparison, and last me around 10 hours on a single charge. :D

As for voltage, each battery has a given voltage output, although there are boosters out there that can be used to increase the voltage. 5v is done with 2x 3v cr123's (I think that's what they're called, can look in the battery mod section for more detailed info) and a resistor, or a single 3.7v and one of the boosters like TI sells.

And the Chuck can be made to run at 5v, but it takes some work, as you have to make a resistor out of a washer and a mixture of conductive and non-conductive epoxy.

You can also use a voltage regulator in place of the resistor. Either way will work fine. As far as battery mods, they're numerous configurations for this. Take your time and browse through the modders section and you pick up on quite a bit. I remained stock 510 for a pretty good while, so it will hold you for a bit too, most likely.

Be sure and pay close attention to the stickies in the forum. Lot of good info!

Good luck and welcome!
