Doc you are EXACTLY right (nomad too)

There's a D-1 and D-2... The E9 is ONLY a D-2. I know this because my d-1 cartos DO NOT fit on my E9's and the D-2 cartos fit on the E9... I mean you can get the d-1 to fit, but the threading is all wrong, it usually pops right out or doesn't screw in all the way.

There are also 2 versions of the E9 which is battery life (one is 300mah the other is 360mah, I have both) then there's the mini which is an E8. The E9 longer battery 360mah, ran me about 3 hours MAX. (so i got an eGo)

Yeah, what Nomad said. There are 2 different Kr's. The Kr808D-1 and the Kr808D-2... I think. I believe the D-2 is like an E9...so don't confuse the 2. They aren't the same, or even close. Discussion of the other KR doesn't come up much, so I forget if it is called a D-2 or whatever.

The only reason I'm considering trading up to a kr8 is just cause I'm assuming it'll give me better performance than my E9. Am I wrong to assume that?

If you have the long E9, no it WILL out perform the KR808. If you are using the shorty it actually works about the same as the KR808.

The short one is approx 71mm long and the long one is approx 81mm long.

Shan, you are saying that the long E9 is better than the KR808D-1? I have no idea, just curious.

Hello, Just joined the forum today.. Have been vaping for 5-6 weeks now, and have tryied the titan 510, the ego/riva 510 AND the wonderful kr8..

Everybody told me I should just forget about small batts cus once I got use to the feel og the bigger devices, I would forget all about the ciggie feel......NOT.. The kr8 is my device of choice, use my old 510 batts, with adapter( cus I have them) and the kr8 batts too.. Mu riva/ego batts only get used if I'm out of power on everything else.. hate the big clumsy thing.. The kr8 carto on a 180 mAh is 10,5 cm long and very nice and ciggie feely.. It only lasts about an hour or 1,5, but have a pcc and 4 batts(2 kr8 and 2 510's) and they get me through the day fine..

The problem, as I see it, is that with analogs there werent alot of choices.. The smoke production and TH was certainly not something I thought about..I just smoked..

Alot of vapors are obcessed with vapor production.. I have never been.... They will tell you that the kr8 doesnt give alot of vapor end the big mods are the best... well.. I tryied doing the bigger batt with 510 atty(not even LR) and vaped up a storm. It was SO annoing. The big devices produce TOO much IMO.. Sometimes you couldnt see the TV!! Its even worse vith VG. Makes it hang aroound for longer..
Do not belive everything you hear.. The smaller devices do not perform bad...Its because alot of vapors want more and more and more. They get bored with their device and upgrade into infinity.. Good TH and vapor are down to personal preference.

Yes many have started with small devices and upgraded to big devices, and happy they did.. But just thought you should know, I did it the other way around...

Aargh... I was just about to place my order, then I saw this, and now I'm second guessing again. By "perform" are you talking about battery life? Or about performance as in vapor/flavor/throat hit? I don't get how a super-mini could outperform a mini. Have you actually tried both?

MichelleDen - You're absolutely right, and I get so tired of seeing people tell other people what they should want. I don't recommend super-mini's on the basis that for most smokers, they simply don't work, if you're trying to completely get off cigs. But that's a practical concern - that has to do with trying to recommend things that will do what they're supposed to. If there was a super-mini that consistently got smokers totally off cigs, I'd be recommending it.

For most people, mini's (510, Kr808) do work. If that's as big as you want to get, fine. I know people who have vaped a lot longer than me, and still only use small e-cigs. Not everyone moves on from them.

I started out with a Kr808, and you wouldn't believe how many people told me you "haven't vaped" until you've tried a 510. Well, I did try a 510, and it wasn't for me. In fact, I didn't like atomizers at all, until I found out that they have to have a certain resistance for me to like them (between regular and LR).

People all have their own things that have worked for them, but I wish they would stop trying to tell everyone else that they have to like the same thing, and just listen to what people are saying.

kodos96 - I am not sure what Shan meant, in terms of battery life/performance. I would think she meant battery life. Because usually, when you have different battery sizes in the same model, it's a difference in battery life, not performance. To get different performance, you'd need to change the voltage. And that isn't usually what the different sizes mean.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. That's why I decided to trust your opinion over his, and went ahead and ordered. In total I got 2 batteries, 2 chargers, 5 cartos and a nice carrying case, all for roughly the same price I paid last week at retail for my E9 'kit' consisting of 1 battery, 1 charger and 1 cart... and of an inferior model. God you get ripped off so much buying at retail.

BTW, do you know anything about V4L's "WOW" carts and juice? They say the cartos run hotter and give fuller flavor.

Shan is a she. :) And a very smart she, but could be have been clearer. I am curious as to what she mean, though.

I have actually found that there is sort of a "U" shape to the cost of e-cigs, from bad models, to good models, to advanced models (mods and high voltage devices). The worst ones are extremely expensive, the good starter models are extremely cheap, and then the advanced models are usually expensive again.

Yes, the V4L WOW cartos run at lower resistance, and do give warmer vapor. I personally never cared for low resistance cartos. They taste fried to me. But lots of people like them. It's one of those things that will be personal opinion.

Duly noted. :)

Do you have to use special juice in a low resistance carto? Cause v4L also sells WOW liquid, presumably for putting in WOW cartos.

Nope. The standard for what counts as a "low resistance" carto is a bit different than the standard for a "low resistance" atomizer.

Cartos have the filler wrapped right around the coil. If you dropped the resistance to 1.5ohm, like an LR atty, you would fry it. Some people do use cartos at higher voltages that would be just as stressful, but they typically drip into them constantly to try to keep them from burning. It's an "advanced/crazy user" thing, basically. :p

A "low resistance" cartomizer never drops below 2.0ohm as far as I'm aware. I believe the WOW cartos are somewhere around 2.3ohm?

So they don't require high voltage juice, per se. As to whether WOW juice is made for low resistance cartos, I'm not sure.

Might I like them with a high voltage juice? Ehhh, maybe but doubt it. They're very hot to me. No juice gets rid of that.

But again, that's just me. Plenty of people swear by them.

The KR808D-1 is likely a good model for mini's as many like it. Do I personally? No.

Regarding the same and "only" battery life difference, to some extent true. I am not the best person to advocate the KR because i have it and never use it - because I don't like it. However, many people do...
Hey Doc - I started with V4L and eventually accumulated 4 autos and 4 XL manuals - Got the 6v V3 a couple months ago and put the KR batts away - decided to order a standard resistance 901 atty (2.8 - 3.0 ohms) just to see if the KR batts would perform better - if you haven't used a 901 on your KRs, you owe it to yourself to give it a shot - I wanted to test DIY juices without filling a cartomiser and it turns out that all 4 manuals are now back in the daily rotation - the vapor production is outrageous and sometimes, depending on the juice, rivals the V3 - I have the carto adaptor on the V3 and am lovin' it - cartos work best for me at 6v but the KRs are Kickin' .... with the 901 - Don't throw those batts away - Tobacco free, 5 months

I'm so sad that customs and expensive sending costs, keep me from buying from v4l....
Shorty batts.. multiple colours, diff cartos... sigh....

MistressNomad: All I know is, that it was comepletely the other way around for me.
I only became completely satisfied with vaping, when I got the kr8.. 510 attys are so unreliable.. only hit the sweet spot once in a while...The kr8 does it every time I pick it up..

Well, I stuck by the Kr808 for nearly 4 months. I've never had an atty die, but I had a really tough time getting carts to work well, and the hit was too light for me. Tried LR atties on a 3.7v e-cig, but it was way too hot.

What got me with cartos, is that I don't seem to have any luck cleaning them. Which means after 6 or 7 refills, they're done. Other people have lots of success with cleaning them, but I never did for whatever reason. So, I had to keep buying them.

At that point, I tried LR atties again, on a lower voltage device, and like it. It was one of those things where I had to find the right power level. Went to dripping, and that's where I'm at now. I've had really good luck with atties, so it's cheaper for me in the long run.

It seems like people have wildly different luck with atties/cartos. I've known people who can't seem to get an atty to last more than a couple weeks, others who have them last a year. People who can clean a carto a dozen times and still have it perform well, and people like me who never seem to get good results.

Hey Mistress - see my post (#33 above) - you have got to try this on your KR8 batts - I'm on my 4th week with one 901, only blown it out twice and it's performing like new - with my cartomizers, (only started enjoying them consistently at 6v) when I fill a new one, it usually lasts up to four weeks just topping off when the flavor diminishes - I do clean them and with most get one more round and then toss.

I still believe the 808 is liked due to the fact of a TRUE 3.7V compared to a 510 type battery. I berlieve the reason is the switch that is used causes less voltage drop. The KR stands for Kranger which is the name of the company 808 is thread pitch and diameter code. D1 is model Number. What ever KR808-D1 you buy , try to comnfirm it is an actual Kranger battery Lecig and Vapor nine carry KR808s which are not actually "KR" from what I understand.

Ok, thanks. I have so much stuff both on my list to buy and in my box that i am not sure when or if I will try them though. I have 240ml of juice ordered, some LR cartomizers, some... hell, I forget what I ordered... but things are in the mail... lol.

I still think i will likely donate my KR808 to a homeless smoker, lol. People can argue until they turn blue that it is a 3.7v device.... I don't care if it is 900v - i don't like the taste.

"Don't like the taste" is a good reason :)

In my case it turns out that I am happy with an 808 (or XL, or G400), do well with the cartos and my DIY juices, have gotten a few friends off cigs recommending the 808 since it's what I know (and can help with when, not if, parts go boom -- none of these things are infallible).

When others get onto the gotta get a 510/Riva/eGo kick I go "Why?". I look at both battery families as analogous to Winston vs. Marlboro. After finally getting off Camel straights I smoked Marl reds for a decade. I had no reason to switch to another cig brand, just as I have no reason to switch to another PV style. I don't see the 510/Riva/eGo as inferior, though I do suspect that I get good vaping compared to them due to Ohm's law (and I know about LRs, as well as how they aren't so good to use with some 510 series batteries -- too many amps to help compensate for the lower running voltage).

Some people seem to do fine with other models, too -- pretty cool that there are different PVs, with different characteristics, if people just aren't happy with what they've tried.

Mistress -- if you would like to try one of the 2.6 ohm cartos I get from vaporsetc give me a shout. They seem pretty decent. I switch around, a mix of 3.3, 3, and 2.6 ohm cartos.

OP -- the 808 shortie really is what you would likely need if you need it to pass in terms of size, though an 808 standard (not shortie), in white, with white cartomizers (cartos) is pretty nice, doesn't stand out that much. The downside of the shortie/mini is the small battery life, as folks have noted. I urge friends to go to a kit with two XLs (what NHaler calls the Mega 808), if they're candidates for a KR808D-1 and not too tense about battery length -- the extra run time between charges is nice.

Agreed. I never say buy an EGO. It depends. If you like the KR and want more of it my view is to buy the "ego version" of the KR - not the EGO. All models are different and provide different taste and different type of hits. Stick with what you like...

If you are unhappy with what you have however, then the EGO is the best option by far currently, IMO.

If you're looking for a kr808 that looks more like an analog, SmokeTip carries an automatic branded 808. I had been considering getting one until I found ECF and realized that SmokeTip probably wasn't for me. There is a lot of positive feedback on their customer service, though, and they ship free and have a lifetime warranty.
