I understand ohms and the fact that it's a measurement of resistance lol. I said I didn't know how coil wrap affects resistance on certain builds and why some prefer more with this type wire and less with that type wire. Gauges and wire types and all are new on the rda front but basic knowledge of electronics and measurement I'm fully versed on. Love seeing all the combinations out there, just came here to find out what's what and most importantly, what's safe. And I'm definitely checking out a different shop!

Nothing at all against you MechWarrior, I'm just blown away that a shop would set up a month old newbie with a .21 ohm quad coil build, not explain anything about how it functioned, and send them on their way. You need to run, not walk, away from that guy, and take as many people that will listen with you. While what he sold you wasnt immeadiatly dangerous, without knowledge of battery safety, someone could take a rig like that, pop in a .... battery, and Harvey Dent themselves.

You didnt say how you "broke" the Stingray, just that it's machining was sharp. I'm very curious how the threads on the Panzer got stripped...that's not something that's easy to do, since they never really get much torque. Maybe some pics?

BTW, all of the batteries that would be used for this type of mod, (and most mods) while rated at 3.7V will be at ~4.2V when fully charged. Not to pick on you, but this is another reason why I think you would benefit from reading a bit more on batteries. You said one of your battery's was 3.7V and the other was 4.3V. If the voltage goes too low, the battery can be damaged and become less stable.

I know it probably seems like a bunch of people here are picking on you and I don't want to add myself to the list, but this has to be said. Please know that I don't mean to pick on you or make you feel bad in any way, I just want to help you to vape safely and I'm sure everyone else in here feels the same way. You need to step back and reevaluate everything you think you know. If you truely understand resistance you would know that longer wire = higher resistance. If you know that longer wire means higher resistance you can easily deduce that either more wraps or a larger diameter will increase resistance if using the same wire. What may not be immediately obvious to some is that larger diameter (smaller AWG number) wire has lower resistance so going to a higher gauge (smaller diameter) wire will also result in higher resistance.

I highly suggest that you buy some kanthal and start wrapping your own coils. I don't like trusting that someone else knows what they're doing or that they did it right when my life is potentially on the line. Download or find an online vaping calculator to help you figure out what build will work for your target resistance. I personally like Vaper's Toolbox for Android. I would also recommend that you try something like a 1ohm single coil build first. Once you have that down you can go up or down in resistance or add coils to find your sweet spot. You might find that you actually do prefer a .2 build, or you might like something much higher which will help to conserve juice.

As already mentioned, please read the battery safety thread. It should be required knowledge before buying a mech.

You made the right choice asking for help!

Ok, so what you're saying is that sometimes wire is confusing and since I'm new I should move from seeking the help of a professional from a vape shop and do my own wiring with no prior knowledge besides an internet site and YouTube? How does that make any sense? I'd rather take it to the new shop I found and have a professional do it for me. I have the guy run it and check it in front of me to be personally sure. Thank you for your post but I have gotten all the information I need. I found a reputable shop and more importantly I've taken it upon myself to learn more about the whole mechanical mod endeavor. Also, I don't think anyone is picking on me. I asked for help and I got it. Thanks!

Sounds like you're on the right track. I think the point was that you have a vested interest in keeping yourself safe, the kid behind the counter at the local vape shop, maybe not so much. There's plenty of great vape shops that have knowledgeable employees and also plenty that aren't knowledgeable. There's no accreditation for vape shops or their employees and there's no guaranty that the guy behind the counter has a clue.

I got into rebuilding because I didn't want to keep buying replacement coils. What I learned once I started is, you can build/tweak your vape to make it truly the best vape for you. Minor changes can make big differences, and if you're like me, you'll have fun figuring out how to make your vape even better. Is it wrong to have someone else build your coils? No, as long as you trust that they know what they're doing. It's just a lot of fun to actually do it yourself. I'm glad you found a new shop, and never be wary of asking questions. This really is a community.
